Having grown up in Manchester as a teenager, and living breathing the post-punk, factory records, music scene, it was with great interest i stumbled upon this album. It was exciting to hear some of the tunes i had long since forgoten about.
Playing it had me reminiscing about hanging round record stalls in the underound market and Butter lane antiques Market wearing long rain coats, and queing up outside HMV, to buy 'Blue Monday' on its first day of release.
I agree with the previous reviewer whole heartedly regarding choice of tracks. Some were too obvious. Durutti Column 'sketch for summer' in particular, i'm sure they've done other tracks but every compilation of this kind has that track on it. Some were an unlikely choices, ... Read More:

There are some decent tracks on here buried amongst the oft-repeated tat selection also included. My main complaint is that this selection has absolutely nothing to do with 'New Wave' post punk. If you want to find an excellent compilation of 'new wave' bands see if you can dig out the now deleted 'Once in a lifetime' double disc set.

Why record companies want to put out such a selection of this, which just throws in all types of odds and sods from the 80's with no real focus, is beyond me really......

The only exception is "Should Have Known Better" Jim Diamond. This is a
good version of the song, but disappointingly not the original hit recording.
