I bought this CD based on the rave reviews it had received and because there was such a long list of songs. However the style of the music is not quite what i was expecting. I am no music buff but the style of the singing is more Irish folk/light opera music than jolly children's music. The words of some songs are not very clear and hard to sing along to. Also, the music sounds quite samey due to the style of the two singers. If you are a music pro this might be for you but if, like me, you wanted something simple and jolly to entertain your child and sing along to this is not the right CD.

These are the songs that Grandma used to sing - and how she herself would like to have sung them. The songs are beautifully sung with charm, and not condescendingly like songs-to-children.

The instrumental accompaniment is traditional and imaginative, and the whole is a joy from beginning to end.

Now I may be slightly biased as I was raised with Wally Whyton, but I think this cd is simply marvelous. I just love Wally's warm voice, as does my son, who repeatedly asks for this cd to be played. I see that a previous reviewer complained that this cd was not the same as the original. Well my mother had the foresight to transfer my old Whyton LPs to cd format prior to getting rid of them, which means I've been able to compare them closely -and this recording and the original are very similar. It's true that some of the chat has been lost on this version, but to be honest I prefer it that way. There are only so many times I can listen to Wally explain the five little piggies nursery rhyme without going nuts, so think I will for now on be playing ... Read More:
