This is a prime example of a double standard. Had another band released this album it would have been more enjoyable, but for an Evergrey album it is a weak attempt. This is the first Evergrey album I would rate below 9/10 - there are about four or five songs present on their latest effort deemed worthy of such an awe-inspiring band, meaning that over half of the album is disappointing.
The below-par production is at times a lot thinner than normal - possibly due to the slight lack of atmospheric keyboards which usually dominate their songs, adding the certain density and atmosphere us fans adore. Had this weaker material released by any other band, I would find myself liking it a lot more - hence the double standard. It is not ... Read More:

This is my favourite Album (remastered) I sometimes think I am listening to Hothouse Flowers (another favourite of mine) although quite different musically I cannot recommend this CD enough it has a selection of 5 songs chosen by Mike Scott which were omitted from the orignal album so well worth the wait the tracks are in my opinion excellent all I can add is if you like this group of musicians not forgettng Mike Scott, it is well worth buying just relax, close the eyes and you will see what I mean - first class in all respects.

Ulysses Awakes is a beautiful and moving reworking of Monteverdi which has a surprising element of spirituality about it. The soloist, Jane Atkins, interprets the work with great sensitivity and clearly relishes the emotional impact of the work.
Of the other works on the disc, It Is Midnight Dr Schweitzer, is a vivid addition. Twelve short pieces inspired by the work of the inventive Swiss Sculptor, Jean Tinguely, show an uncanny affinity with his aesthetic.

The music on these discs is so familair that the main question must be whether it's worth upgrading your old cd's to the new format. Well, I took the chance and would say that on balance it is. Certainly for example on the underrated 'Street Legal' album the improvement in sound is quite noticeable. The original recording was poorly produced and mixed with a 'muddy' sound. Whilst the album may still not be to everyone's taste, the upgrade is significant. The only one of these albums I didn't previously own was 'Slow Train Coming', although I did have a couple of tracks on Biograph. Not being a fan of Dylan's 'religious' period I was pleasantly surprised by this album, and it is rumoured to be the best of his gospel trilogy. The other issue ... Read More:
