Whilst I admire Chris Rea's ambition I fear the scope was too great and he stretched himself too far. From 11 CDs I found only 11 songs of top notch material. The majority of the rest was rather generic needing further effort applied or simply forgotten all together. Therefore it's quite a hefty sum to pay out when the majority of it is so unrewarding. Instead I'd recommend people save their money for the Blue Jukebox album which is a far more focused and rewarding experience.

The scale of this project is impressive, I was definitely predisposed to like it but I am affraid that I found it a bit bland. Rea clearly put his heart and sould into this so I do admire him for that. To realise this project on such a mamoth scale is worthy of admiration but I am affraid to my ears it sounds like the result of a guy churning out a huge volume of songs over a short period of time.
I can still find this pleasant enough to listen to but it is always with a shade of disappointment.

From the crackle and hiss of the first moment on the first disc through to the credits of the DVD this collection is, perhaps redefines, quality. Not ever a Chris Rea fan in the past - I have been an avid follower of all the Jazzeeblue material, and it is some of the finest music I've ever heard. It is so clearly a work of love and dedication which inspires, entertains, and even teaches - played by people clearly doing what they should be doing. Sometimes I get off on simply the production quality; other times I wonder how on earth they blended guitar and piano like that. Just a truly marvellous musical experience. At this price I will buy a second set so I can play it in different rooms. If anyone asks me what does 'genius' mean, I will ... Read More:

this collection of the many facets of the blues shows chris reas versatility with music and highlights his longstanding devotion to the blues and does not go down the usual route of rehashing old standards but refreshes the sound without losing its original appeal. amust have for rea fans and for afficianados of the blues

What can I say, 137 tracks plus a DVD is an immense piece of work, and the amazing thing is that every track is excellent - some of them are wonderful such as 'You Got Soul' and 'Nobody But You', 'There's No One Looking' I could go on and on. The trouble with it is that it takes months to get familiar with the album, so even remembering your favourite tracks is difficult. He attempts to have a CD for different styles of blues music. The result is less raw than Stoney Road, and may disappoint blues fans; but for Chris Rea fans it's like all of our Christmas's coming at once. On top of all this, the packaging is beautiful, Chris Rea's wonderful paintings illustrate the book which contains the CDs in the front and back covers.
