After so many years with NO new Stackridge material, an album consisting fifty percent of the mk1 ensemble (playing and writing) was better than nothing. Sadly neither Andy or Mutter were on board to provide a few songs, and Sparkle hasn't played since 'Bowler hat'. The bulk of this albums compositions are penned by James Warren, and surprisingly I've never heard him rock so much. There are still plenty of his trademark poppy, sometimes zaney ballads, but with the assistance of a couple of co-writers he has supplied a very good batch of material. The last time that I heard Stackridge before buying this CD was about 30 years ago. I did have one of their albums, I can't remember what it was called, but I was never a big fan of theirs and never saw them play live. In truth, I had nearly forgotten all about them until I heard a friend talk about them recently and that rekindled memories of that album that I owned all those years ago and made me search this out.

The 2 halves of The Korgis, James and Andy, have both made excellent solo albums, but very different in musical terms. James produces the sound typical of The Korgis whereas Andy experiments in folk music. I have them all including a demo copy of an album that may not have been released. This album seems to be the only one currently available. It sounds like it was recorded in the bedroom and could be criticised for being a touch self indulgent. However I don't believe it was intended for mass-market release. Try it and you'll love it - by the way, depite it's title it is not a Christmas album.

Fantastic album Pacific Ocean Blue, just get it and listen to it, plus the bonus tracks and the additional lost album 'Bambu', all beautifully packaged, make this a worthy tribute to a flawed genius; Dennis Wilson.
