This is an exercise in nostalgia, an evocation of the sounds of BBC radio in the 50's and 60's, or of drawing room culture from even earlier in the century. I grew up listening to most of these songs on the radio, in the days before (and after) the Beatles and the emerging pop culture reshaped popular broadcasting. The CD recaptures the sounds and feel of classic recordings - complete with crackle and hiss on some tracks. The texture of the sound is nostalgic as well as the choice of recordings.
