i wanted a compilation that contained a bit of eveything, well this certainly does. it has eveything from the well known songs to the less well known and even speeches that were headline news of the day. it made me think what it must of been like during those terrible years of war for the soldiers and for those left behind to cope. i would thoroughly recommend buying this, it made my day listening to this wonderful war time music which we dont seem to get these days, how sad.

I'm a longtime fan of Eva Cassidy's wonderful voice and style. I think I have all her albums and those albums provide a lot of the background music for my life. Her all-too-soon death took a marvelous talent from this world.
That said, though, I found this album a bit disappointing. I think that with every now-deceased beloved artist, there exists a file somewhere of recorded songs that were considered for earlier albums and put aside because they weren't quite good enough. Then, when the artist dies, there's a scramble to unearth these items and create an album from them. It doesn't always work: those songs were filed away for good reason.
And while I find this album enjoyable, that seems to be the case here. ... Read More:

Mike Scott always seemed like a sanctimonious bore. Even worse a sanctimonious bore who takes every opportunity to tell people that really he isn't a sanctimonious bore, rather a way, wackaday, loveable tyke. I base this on no experience like most of my finer prejudices, but during their heyday The Waterboys really annoyed me.
But every ten years or so I think that maybe I misjudged them, and take a listen to summat new. And time hasn't been kind to either of us as they (he) indulge in some sub Dylan bluster over a faux hey nonny no tune and the most irritating fiddle. Ever.

Bobby Blue Bland is rightly accalaimed as one of the greatest ever blues singers and this album clearly demonstrates why. If you are only going to purchase one album by Bobby Bland then I urge you to buy this one. All the songs are great with superb vocal range. My favourite is his version of "Stormy Monday Blues" which I put in the same category as the T Bone Walker version. Brilliant!

Flawed yes, a gem - yes. I'll get the flaws out of the way first. The opening track suffers from a sonic rumble which sounds like feedback in the low register - I'd say that the piano wasn't recorded correctly, or perhaps something went awry during the overdubbing of the horn section, which is a shame, as it's a good performance. Fortunately, the alternative, earlier take (even though it's listed as 'Part 2'), without the brass section, is excellent.
Secondly, there are perhaps too many tracks in total (sixteen); the removal of two or three would have resulted in a superior album.
Now the good news: Six of the sixteen tracks feature 'His Blues Band', actually John Mayall's Bluesbreakers: John Mayall, Peter Green, John McVie and ... Read More:

The great James Cotton will be 70 years old next year, and he has been battling serious throat problems for a long time, but even though his once impressive vocal power is largely gone, he is still a commanding presence on stage, and his abilities with the harmonica are undiminished.
This 1984 album is one of his finest, along with 1974's "100% Cotton"...his raspy voice has plenty of character, and his playing is magnificent, all quivering fills and muscular riffs. James Cotton shines on the slow burner "23 Hours Too Long", perhaps the best rendition of Eddie Boyd's classic tune, and he is equally magnificent on up-tempo numbers like "Diggin' My Potatoes" and "Superharp", the groovy swagger of "Ying Yang" and "No Cuttin' Loose", the fiery ...
