Geordie Boy - The Anthology

Search: Trimdon Grange
by: Alan Price

Release Date February 26, 2008
Alan is best remembered for the classics he recorded with the Animals, most notably House of the rousing sun, but he made plenty of great music after quitting the Animals and going solo. One of the reasons he quit the Animals was that he didn't like the extensive touring, so he did less of that as a solo singer - this may be why his solo records met with only limited success in America, where he had one minor hit (I put a spell on you) but was otherwise ignored.

After leaving the Animals, Alan had four UK top ten hits and three other hits that nearly made the UK top ten including Rosetta, a duet with Georgie Fame. The remarkable aspect of Alan's solo hits is their variety. I put a spell on you (a cover of a Screaming Jay Hawkins ... Read More:

Seven for Old England

Search: Trimdon Grange
by: Maddy Prior

Release Date June 23, 2008
I am a great admirer of Maddy prior, not least because to me she represents the true voice of English Folk Music and is not afraid to champion the 'English' song in this day and age of so called correctness. English Folk Music is amongst the best music in the world and this CD is no exception. There are some great melodies here both sung and played so well that it is a joy to listen to. I cannot imagine a world without Maddy's music - with or without Steeleye Span and the Carnival band that she sings with. To me the real gem of this collection is 'Magpie', her own composition which was shelved for over forty years until now and never fails to send a shiver down my spine and a tear to my eye whenever I play it. So I would advise anyone to buy ... Read More:

The Carthy Chronicles

Search: Trimdon Grange
by: Martin Carthy

Release Date April 02, 2001
I was disappointed with this box set as it seemed cheap and a poor production. The recordings seem flat and a bit quiet. The low-res pictures on the boxes cover should have been enough of a give away. I'm sure die hard Carthy fans will not agree and I'm sure there are some great rarities amongst the 80 odd tracks but I feel you would be better off buying the original albums released as the artist intended rather than this bumper box of folk. The poor and average dilutes the good. Shame, I was looking forward to it, live and learn.

Search: Trimdon Grange
by: Alan Price

Release Date April 18, 2005
Only Alan Price knows exactly why he quit the Animals (it seems that he needed a break), but this compilation shows that Alan was a successful recording artist without them. Alan took a much-needed break after leaving the Animals but eventually formed the Alan Price Set. Here you can find all of Alan's recordings with the Alan Price Set including several major UK hits as well as some BBC recordings.

While the Animals were an R+B group, Alan broadened his musical base after he left them. The R+B sounds have largely (but not entirely) been replaced by mainstream pop sounds. The group's first single (Any day now) was a great mainstream pop song but failed to chart. Perhaps the public still wanted Alan to do R+B as the follow-up single (I ... Read More:
