Ambient music a tough nut to crack, especally for one raised on the mainstream. It can get a little hit and miss at times, and after taking that first step in the exploration of this wonderful genre, (Brian Eno) it is only the most determined cacophonaut that takes many more.
Enter Stars of the Lid. Contained in The Ballasted Orchestra is everythng you need from Ambience, everything you got from Eno, but different, more subdued. Unlike Eno they use silence a lot less, prefering to let the soundscapes roll, subtle alterations slowly changing their tone, like the evolution of a species encompassed in music.
