Ole! has the fiery excitement and joy of Flamenco..The Master at work. The cascading sounds of flamenco guitar, coupled with the haunting, sometimes even mournful voices is pure magic. This is like front row seats for a concert and not to be missed
Release Date January 31, 1997
Brilliant! - You know why? Because this simply involves two decks, a mixer (I'm guessing the DJM600 if the much used filter effect on this CD is anything to go by) and a very talented DJ. I love this mix in its glorious entirety. What's more - it's live. On a good stereo, you can actually here the occasional record crackle! The mixing is by and large first rate - beat perfect, lengthy and in key and the programming is at times, inspired!! I still listen to this compliation an awful lot today and still play out some of the tunes on it myself - especially Schudelfloss, Twist & Shout, Same Sun Same Sky and Bullet, because they still sound so fresh & funky....

This is the perfect soundtrack to this sort of film, the use of key songs in key scenes shows that there was quite a bit of care taken in choosing songs. E.G. The lyrics of Bloc Party's "This Modern Love" match what's happening on screen when it's heard. Nice and breezy, it's a worthy addition to anyone's collection.

You can pretty much divide this CD into two parts: the first 6 tracks are greasy 50s r&b recorded for the small independent Detroit label Fortune around 1956-57, and the other 22 are mostly instrumental soul recorded between 1965 and 1970.
While I like both genres, for me the 1950s material comes off much better - the opening "Bacon Fat" and its sequel, "The Greasy Chicken", are hilarious talking records with lowdown, scuzzy r&b rhythm tracks, both highly danceable despite their slow tempos. "I Just Want A Little Lovin'" is pretty much a re-write of Muddy Waters's "I Just Want To Make Love To You" but none the worse for that, the superb "Jail Bait" (with a marvellous brass section riffing away moodily) is a cautionary tale that stays ...
