This set represents a creditably even handed, 43 track sweep through five decades of chart toppers. The album does itself a favour by missing out any chart toppers from the last ten years that typify the 'straight-in-at-number-one with a fan base push then a plummet of 22 places on week two' pattern - caused by declining sales in the singles market. These are, at least, proper number ones in the traditional sense. Since the 1960's, when almost every Beatles single was an automatic chart topper, the best records by the greatest artists have rarely been number ones. "Smash Hits - The 80s" is a superb collection of 80s hits but so much more than that, all the extras that you recieve with it are fantastic and you can spend ages enjoying this wonderful collector's item that is sure to delight all thoses who love the best decade of music.
If you are a fan of 1980s and the music from that wonderful area then this collections a must have, if you were around during those 10 years and a reader of "Smash Hits" magazine, you will no doubt enjoy it even more and all the happy memories will all come flooding back to you, I can guarantee it.
Fully recommened, a super release!

Great complilation of all the best oldies which I've listened to in my car for ever. There's a big "50" on the front and I've so far given it to three friends to mark their 50th birthdays. It has been well-received.

ZTT were one of THE great record labels during my formative years and this beautifully fashioned collection is everything I hoped it would be. Pretty much all of the big hits and Trevor Horn productions are included, alongside a lot of lesser known but often equally interesting tunes by artists like The Frames, Heights of Abraham and Tara, who was Joan Collin's daughter, don't you know. I didn't.
Plus you get a DVD disc featuring 18 ZTT videos. Some of them have dated as you might expect, but there are some real gems here - like Shane MacGowan's `That Woman's Got Me Drinking', which was directed by and stars Johnny Depp, the rare Video Destructo version of Frankie's Two Tribes and Close (To The Edit) by the brilliant Art of Noise, with it's satanic pixie ... I found this box set on tv and bought it the next day. It has been really good listening to all the old 80's tracks. It is full of all those tracks you hear on the radio and recognise and miss hearing. My daughter will not admit to listening to what she describes as 'wrinkly songs' but it is amusing to hear her sing along.
Well worth buying if you enjoy listening to songs with real catchy lyrics that are easy to understand
