I have to don my "hmmmmm" face for this review I'm afraid.

So, I suppose it's possible to have a "Mod Music" album without the Who or the Small Faces or The Faces, after all this is one such! But when you also leave out the Lambrettas, The Jam, Rod Stewart and Manfred Mann as well, you do start to wonder. The whole thing plays somewhat like a Madness/UB40/The Beat benefit in fact.

The inclusion of sixties rarities like "Rudi's in Love" by the Locomotive and "Seven Days Too Long" by Chuck Wood (incorrectly credited in the plural "Woods" on this one!) - a straight reggae pop song and a 70s Northern Soul classic respectively - just reinforce the idea that this collection was more about what the compiler could get, rather ... How come I'm the first to review this AWESOME album!?

I bought this well over a year and it's definately my all time favourite compilation. If you're a fan of 80's mix-tapes and Soul Jazz Records, then you'll love this. It's got the best mix of soul, jazz, funk and hip-hop with some absolute gems.

'Born Under a Bad Sign' is an amazing slice of pure acoustic funk whilst 'Up Town Top Rankin' and 'Rhymin' and Rappin' ae such perfect dancehall funk tunes you'll be guaranteed to be asked at parties "Who is this? Can I get a copy?".

It does get a bit 'scratchy' in the middle (ol' skool Dre), but pretty soon it's back to dancable tunes. For people like me who like a bit of retro funk but haven't the stamina to religiously ... Read More:

Great set from Joe Gibbs stable,seen some of these tracks selling for a lot of money on a well known website and in secondhand shops,so well worth purchasing if you like great vintage reggae music.Some sound tracks lacks sound quality maybe a "CD thing" otherwise a great set worth having.
