Vaughan Williams: Pilgrim's ProgressSearch: Vanity Fair from: Emi Classical Release Date April 21, 1992 I had the privilege of working backstage during the 1954 Cambridge production of Pilgrim's Progress at the city's Guldhall and also had the pleasure of meeting the grand old man himself, when Vaughan Williams and his wife attended a performance and came backstage. I found the performance of that work completely overwhelming and a fully emotional experience. The sequence when Pilgrim meets Mr. By-Ends is very Puccini-esque and the "Lord is My shepherd" sequence is quite sublime. The Entrance into Heaven completely surpasses Handel's Hallelujah Chorus and is most moving. I have worn out my three disc LP set over the years. The CD re-issue of this recording is highly recommended. |

Rolling Back the 70's: 60 Hits from the Screaming SeventiesSearch: Vanity Fair by: Various Artists Release Date February 06, 2006 There are very few hits from the Screaming Seventies here because it's primarily a collection of very poor studio remakes and poorly recorded live performances. If you want to know what happened to 70s stars "after they were famous", it seems that some of them were reduced to remaking inferior versions of their old hits for money. How sad for those performers and how shameful that Amazon stocks this kind of rubbish. (This gets one star because Amazon won't allow me to give it zero stars.) |
