I didn't expect much from this album but this is really one of the best collections of classic, romantic music I have listened to. It is now one of my most played CD:s. When I just want to sit down and close my eyes to the music, well this is often what I listen to. Meras voice is never strained, his gift for singing is apparent on this album. Mera is at his best when he is the only singer and on this album he is the only one on all songs, accompanied by a superb orchestra. I'm hesitant to give anything five stars because I'm not sure how to define a five star album. I have two other albums with Mera but this is the only one I will give five stars. Perhaps the other albums will win me over in due time?

This took its time! Morgan Griffiths is one of Britain's finest Euphonium players. This album is, however, worth the wait. Whilst the programme is neither relentlessly contemporary or filled with new recordings, Morgan Griffiths manages to inflect some tried and trusted solos - Rule Britannia, Largo al Factotum - with new freshness and musicality. The three substantial works present, by Redhead, Fernie and Gregson are all immaculately played and developed with real musical insight.
