Ken Burns Jazz: the Story of America's MusicSearch: Walkin Blues by: Various Artists Release Date December 08, 2000 This huge and very comprehensive set of 5 CD's is one of the best overviews of classic jazz ever. It covers jazz from 1920 onwards, and although there isn't much on the CD's from 1975 onwards, thids is not why it was produced. This focuses on the classics: Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Miles Davis, John Coltrane et al all figure heavily. Also, this is one of the few times a Jazz compilation is cross-label, meaning you get all the classics in one go. In conclusion, if you only ever buy one set of Jazz, this has to be it. |
