Before "Down From The Mountain" and "O Brother Where Art Thou" celebrated and revived rootsy Americana and bluegrass, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band were recording some of the same tunes with the original pioneers in 1971. Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, The Carter Family, Vassar Clements, Earl Scruggs, Doc Watson and Merle Travis (to name but a few) came together with a bunch of hippies for a historic recording in Nashville, resulting in the double album "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". Almost 20 years later, a second volume was recorded with traditionalists like Johnny Cash, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris, Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman.
