Of the 27 tracks on offer here a minimum of 11 are covers and some of the originals are from way back ie Grover Washington and Earl Klugh before the term Smooth Jazz had been dreamt up.

Dont get me wrong you get great musicians here and side one showcases some of the very best including Boney James, Rick Braun, Pieces of a Dream, Fourplay and the Rippingtons, where the CD falls down is side two where 10 0f the 13 tracks are from 1980 and before and would have probably fallen into the Jazz Funk category.

If you are looking to try a smooth jazz album I would recommend hunting down old Jazz FM compliations which are going very cheap on this site eg 101 Eastbound a penny, a bargain with more upto date artists.

I was given this CD as a present and expected a "JAZZ" album. Don't get me wrong, I like it but if you are expecting a Jazz album then you may be dissapointed. For example, when the Commodores produced "Easy" they were on the Motown label, it is SOUL, not Jazz, not Jazz Funk, not Jazz fusion but SOUL. Other SOUL tracks include Marvin Gaye "Let's get it on",Isley Brothers "Summer Breeze", Billy Paul "Me and Mrs Jones" - there are a several more so check the track listing to see if there is enough JAZZ for you - happy listening

The whole Blackploitation series is well worth investing in, but the best of the series by the length of a wing tip collar is Volume Three. Taking, as the sub-title suggests, elements of jazz, soul and funk (Though whether they are really from the inner city is open to debate) the quality quotient on this coollection (sic) is admirably high. So why is it only now available on the out-moded cassette format?
There are some true classics included here - "Trouble Man" by Marvin Gaye, "Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield and the truly superb "Across 110th Street by Bobby Womack-but the real joy is in the brilliance of some of the lesser known tracks such as errr "Joy" by Isaac Hayes which sees the maestro at his sultrily smooth best.
