I purchased this having seen Willie years ago on the George Hamilton show with his long hair and Trigger his aged guitar. I wasn't sure whether Country was for me but I knew a few tracks and thought I would give it a try. It is superb in every way and is not the usual Country Music that we hear from Dolly and others. This is more Country Blues and some of the lyrics are sad and poignant whilst others are good fun. Willie is very versitile and I love this album and have since purchased others and DVD's of his concerts. I have yet to be dissapointed,a true professional and entertaning musician withso much energy. I am definiely a convert to Willie Nelson but I would say I am not a convert to Country & Western Music. Willie has had a long and distinguished career but the period covered by this compilation was particularly successful. He had plenty of success during the rest of the eighties with such classics as Always on my mind, City of New Orleans, To all the girls I've loved before and Seven Spanish angels, but you must look elsewhere for them. Even without them, this is a very strong compilation.

Despite recording some excellent music in the sixties and early seventies, Willie only became a major star after he signed to Columbia in 1975. Having been a fan of Willie Nelson for many years and collected LP's Tapes and CD's covering a wide range of his music I think this collection is the best ever. A mixture of early and late tracks, the voice has never changed only grown more mature. As the title says the Classic and Unreleased tracks are brilliant. There are too many to list individually, 61 tracks all told over 3 hours of listening time. Just turn down the lights, close your eyes and listen. You can see him on the stage performing at his best.
