Search: Why
by: London Philharmonic Orchestra

Release Date April 05, 2004
There has been much comment on what makes a modern opera, and if this particular work fulfils the 'Opera' criteria. This is a fantastic way for many to approach opera, and it has just finished it's second Glyndebourne run. This recording is first rate and greatly benefits from the live performance. The countertenor singing of Chris Robson is 'alien' as this role intends and at times extremely touching. The controller role is a tour de force, and sung with ease by Clarron McFaddon. She scales a sonic f with ease! Nualla Willis is splendid and at times her sound is confused with Mr Robsons, further displaying that she also is an outsider. The relationship of Tina and Bill (Mary Plazas & Coxon) is beautifully sung and realised. Plazas's singing ... Read More:

The Essential Ricky Skaggs

Search: Why
by: Ricky Skaggs

Release Date April 01, 2003
The success that Ricky had in the eighties is nothing short of sensational. In the wake of the Urban cowboy craze, along came a bluegrass singer and picker to take the country charts by storm. Bluegrass purists didn't approve because Ricky added a drummer to the line-up in order to appeal to a wider audience. Yet this one concession to commercialism was a master stroke. For many people, the first bluegrass music they ever heard was by Ricky. I hadn't listened to a lot of bluegrass before Ricky came along, so he helped my interest in the music to grow.

Among the classic tracks here are Crying my heart out over you, I don't care, Heartbroke, Don't cheat in our hometown and Honey open that door. All those tracks were from his first three ... Read More:

Comin' Home to Stay

Search: Why
by: Ricky Skaggs

Release Date October 25, 1990
Ricky's roots are in bluegrass, but he was not allowed to record bluegrass music while he was on a major label. During that period (the eighties and early nineties), Ricky recorded a series of traditional country albums, just occasionally hinting at bluegrass. This album is fairly typical of them, mixing original songs with covers of old country and bluegrass songs. The overall mood of the album is upbeat.

The covers include I'm tired (three co-writers include Mel Tillis and Ray Price), Hold whatcha got (Jimmy Martin), If you don't believe the bible (written by Carl Jackson and Glenn Sutton) and San Antonio Rose (Bob Willis). The latter track has a very long intro and a very long instrumental break in the middle, so the musicians get plenty ... Read More:
