Why are Clearlake not huge? I can't work it out.
Lido was their debut, and probably the more consistent of their current output, and at it best it shines like the brightest Winterlight. Sunday Evening opens with dour, sparse drumming for a few seconds, then Clearlake's trademark lush guitars enter into sound and before long, Jason Pegg's doing that thing he does.

Let me digress for a second to mention Jason Pegg. He is, as you may have guessed, the frontman/songwriter of Clearlake, and without doubt their finest asset. His songwriting/singing ability in never bettered than on Sunday Evening, with its hilarious yet "too true" chorus lyric of "It's one of those washed out days, let's face it there's nothing else on except Songs ... I was turned onto this band by Mr Joshua Moore who plays guitar and sings for Classic Case (who you should also check out). Imagine a blend of Neil Young, Counting Crows and Jackson Browne and you're somewhere near. This is a great album, full of well written songs and, once again, has only been released in America. V2 really need to sort themselves out. Especially as the band recently did a cracking session for "Whispering" Bob Harris on Radio 2. I was lucky enough to get the last copy of this CD from Amazon - I can't stress enough how much you should own it.

Fans of Sarah Brightman have expressed mixed opinions on this `Best Of' release.

Being labeled as a `crossover' artist I think can be a burden, for there are times when he/she will perform opera and classical music but get criticized by the `classical buffs' for trying to step on the toes of their treasured elitist professional musicians of the classical world.

Then there is the criticism from fans of `popular music', who see their idol apparently deserting their pop roots and alienating themselves by joining the orchestral high society club.

So when pop meets classical is there always friction?
