This album is full of gimmicky stupid crap that could only be of interest to anyone whose head is stuck up New York City's hipster community's ass. References to Harold Hunter and Max Fish are rapped over the kind of beats that give you a headache with ridiculous samples interspersed almost randomly. It's absolutely brilliant. I listen to it all the time.

Grandaddy will be no more. With their last album recently released, it seems like a good time to revisit their melancholy-robot rockers. Here "Sumday" and the "Sophtware Slump" are compiled together, showing off the best material Grandaddy has yet produced.
"The Sophtware Slump" opens with a sort of alien banjo, crooning voice and chirping birds. The album quickly speeds up into a series of bittersweet songs that fizzle on the edge with a bit of punk. "Hewlett's Daughter" is actually kind of fun and poppy, while "Crystal Lake" has a keyboard shimmer.
But at heart, these songs are soft, floating, and silvery, with lots of fuzz and sound effects mixed in with piano and some aching synth. Jason Lytle sings about sad ... Read More:

How can a band possibly follow up something as amazing as 'The Sophtware Slump'? In the same way that Radiohead could never possibly hope to release anything like OK Computer again. The Sophtware Slump (TSS) was a one-off: you know it, and Jason Lytle obviously knew it too. But rather than becoming all weird like Radiohead did with their follow-up, Grandaddy decided to go a bit more poppy and accessible. The result is this fine album.
First few listens were, for me, a bit disappointing. Sumday is no TSS, and a few of the tracks have almost the same bass line and pace, which sounds very like 'I Want to Break Free' by Queen! Because of a poorly thought-through track order, these songs are clustered together at the front of the ... Read More:

Back in late 1992 Son Doobie (Funkdoobiest frontman) guested on House of Pain's single "House and the Rising Sun". His trademark cartoon chav rapping style lead the group to record their first album - 'Which Doobie U B?'. This album being produced by Muggs is full of his hard dusty beats but delves more into the realm of old school funk piano breaks and horn stabs a plenty. Cypress Hill's b-real makes an appearance at one point to change direction in Son's benal rhyming skills ("eenie meanie/i funk like whodini!!?!) but the doobs don't lean on their more famous mates. With Son Doobie and Tomahawk holding it down on the M.I.C we have Ralph M's cutting it up on the SD50's!! This album gives a big Nod to the Beat Street era but spookily lends itself to ... Read More:
