Watched this a few years back but couldn't get on with the animation style. It was bought as a present for my 4yo who loves it. On re-watching I didn't have the same animation prejudice simply because Tim Burton has made it more 'acceptable'. Shallow of me I know but there you go.
The Aunts are fantastic in the 'real-life' section although I couldn't get on with the boy. Pete Postlethwaite still gives me the creeps (although that's from the Sharpe TV series rather than this film).
In the animated section the bugs are all pretty good and the boy gets better.
The songs are OK but I didn't find them particularly catchy.
I don't know whether I've ever watched a film in which I identified more with all the characters than I did in this emotionally wrenching masterwork from the late, great Louis Malle. It is part of the genius of Malle to, like Shakespeare, make every character real and to see and present the depth of even those slightly off stage.
I could begin with the youngest, the daughter Sally (Gemma Clarke) who says little and is always at a slight distance, her serious face in the backseat of the car seemingly thinking dark thoughts, her face down the hallway at night, seemingly knowing that her father has committed adultery with her brother's fiancée--yet not knowing. Louis Malle wanted a certain expression ... Read More:

i like it, i think, it could have been better, way more better, but, i really really like it, i guess, and, there, is, a lot of sex and nudity stuff here on here. on the movie. quite something.!!!
Release Date June 09, 1997
I cannot for the life of me understand all the 5 star reviews. This film comprises a rediculously unbelieveable script populated with unbelieveable, 2-dimensional, cliched characters and executed with heavy, wooden performances. Is this what happens when artistic folk conspire to create "gritty" and "real" drama. The total running time of nearly two and a half hours makes this ham-fisted effort almost unwatchable
Release Date February 09, 1998
I bought this for my 6 and 9 year old girls, we watched it once and they told me they never want to see it again.
They sat horror-struck at the worsening cruelty and rejection suffered by the poor horse. Me too.I kept wondering why it's hailed as a great family film when we all felt miserable by the end! Not even seeing Sean could cheer me up.
I daren't even give it to a charity shop for fear of traumatising any more kids.
Release Date June 21, 1999
This is a fanstastic series, from the infidelity of Ted, to the growing confidence of Rita, to the minx that is Liz, with some drunken antics from Rodney and Betty thrown in for good measure, this show is pure gold!
Release Date January 27, 2003
This is based on the book "Divorcing Jack" by Colin Bateman and the film is just as funny as the book, if not funnier. David Thewlis stars as Dan Starkey, a columnist who likes his drink. One day, he meets a young woman and after being caught kissing her by his wife, she throws him out. After the young woman is murdered and he becoems the prime suspect, it is up[ to him to find a man called "Jack" and solve the murder. Of course, there is more to the situation than meets the eye...
The story is quick and pacy with lots of twists and turns. The best thing about the film though is Thewlis. He is hilraious as Starkey whose dress sense is the only thing worse than his drinking. A recommended film for Thewlis film but if you are up for some dark comedy, then ... Read More:

A slow, thoughtful, moving film. With David Thewlis very much on form. Leaves you with an awareness of the generosity of the human spirit.
