I absolutely love this movie and have watched it several times over. The script is brilliant and you'll find yourself in fits of laughter quite often although be warned tissues may be needed too.
Two women (Whoopi Goldberg and Mary-Louise Parker) agree to travel cross-country together even though they don't know each other in order to share the cost and for safety. On the way they acquire another member (Drew Barrymore) who is an old friend of Whoopi Goldberg's character. The three women are different in almost every way but soon become good friends sharing laughs and tears. A story about a journey of the heart, true friendship and the hardships it can conquer.

With the current remake of Neil Simon's 'The Goodbye Girl' showing on television at the moment, it reminded me of this original film production, one of the better films from the 1970s, and one of the better films to derive from a Broadway play to keep much of the same character as the play. I have watched this film many, many times over the years and it's still as great as the first time I watched it. A superstar cast brings with it quality acting and a superb script. Don't think I've ever watched it without crying, so if you're a Steel Magnolias virgin, or coming back to it for a repeat viewing - be sure to have the tissues at the ready....
It also has one of my all-time favourite quotes, which is something I live by...
"I'd rather have one moment of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special" - simply beautiful!

Not a bad movie, but not brilliant either. As a dyed-the-wool John Cusack fan I'm bound to say his performance was good, and it was, but certainly not his greatest. James Spader was good in the role of the 'good guy', something he tends not to do very often. The casting of both actors against their usual type did mean that I thought more about the plot/story than I might have done otherwise. Neither of these main characters is really bad nor really good, they are written reasonably well and are 'real'/human. Somehow there was something a bit clumsy about the film. Undercover Blues

OK, let me start out by saying that this is one of my favorite movies; it's a nice combination of romance and action. I like Dennis Quaid and Kathleen Turner as a couple, finding them to be a lot of fun. The action is very good, and the scene where Dennis Quaid beats up a bad guy with a baby in one hand and a stroller in the other is great! Yep, this is an excellent movie, one of my all-time favorites!

By the way, as far as family viewing is concerned, this is a very family-friendly movie. The violence is limited, with is no blood to be seen, and no nudity. I love this movie, and so does my family (especially my fourteen-year-old daughter!). We highly recommend this movie!
