In terms of consistency I would say this is the best Eagles album. All the songs are great and the whole album can be listened to without having to forward past the odd filler - which IMHO can't be said for any other Eagles album.
My second favourite album would probably be One Of These Nights. Sure Hotel California is a great album (Hotel is one my all time favourite songs) but Desperado and One Of These Nights for me these definately have the edge overall. I'm also in total agreement with one of the other reviewers - the Doolin Dalton reprise at the end is magic!

The 70's was a decade of excellent music, where creativity was at it's peak and for alot of groups good songwriting was at the forefront.
The quality of this group astounds me. The reason I went for this album is because the title track is catchy, but meaningful. My other favourites are Hollywood Waltz (superb lyrics, that really sums up some people), Lyin' Eyes (A superb classic), Visions (great rock song) and After the Thrill is Gone (a beautiful, apt song that instantly struck a chord with me). The whole group write, sing and play such fantastic songs and they all possess decent singing voices.
Unlike some groups the Eagles sing with feeling and you can tell they mean what they sing. It's no wonder ... Read More:

'On The Border' is the dark horse of The Eagles' recording history, featuring just one of their best-known tracks. 'The Best Of My Love', however, is not representative of the album as a whole. Like 'Take It Easy', this smooth, lilting song was the candy used to interest the casual listener. The band's strength was less in writing great songs, though there are several of those, than in their execution. 'Already Gone' is a good song made better by fine harmonies and an ability to rock without going at it too hard. It's a track that exemplifies their ability to appeal to a wide-ranging audience. The title track and the eulogy to James Dean rock harder, while 'Midnight Flyer', with its fast banjo, leans more toward country. 'You Never Cry Like A Lover' ... Read More:

The first Eagles album is also one of their best. The two major hits, 'Take It Easy' and 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' are the bait, but are not especially typical of the album as a whole. They are the easy listening pop items, mild songs couched in lush, attractive harmonies and textures. Almost everything else on the album is more interesting and offers more to bite on. 'Witchy Woman', with its gritty, native American flavour offers more colour. 'Train Leaves Here This Morning' is the other big highlight. Bernie Leadon brought this song with him from Dillard and Clark's fine debut album The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark...Plus. Its gentle pace belies a mischievous, intriguing, drug-connotated lyric.
Glen Frey's poignant 'Most Of Us Are Sad' is a ... Read More:

This album is, despite only being a year old, classic Eagles, and one of their best. It was worth the wait, as although it's polished and sounds perfect, it is full of raw, real emotions, and every line is delivered with that feeling as a driving force.
I was also impressed they kept the momentum going with two discs, 21 tracks in fact, of consistently beautiful music, each song speaking directly to me as a listener and making me believe everything they're singing.
This is also a brilliant showcase of the different genres covered, from pure heartbreak as we can hear in I Don't Want To Hear Any More, to catchy, commercial almost pop sounds in How Long, to folkier music in No More Walks In The Wood, and a few others in between.

The Eagles' "Greatest Hits 1971-1975" may be the single greatest compliation ever made. It is by far the most famous and biggest-selling 'Best Of' ever released, and contains most of the influential American band's greatest songs. It is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, alongside with Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon". It was an essential part of any music collection, and still really is.
"The Very Best Of The Eagles", the most recently-released Eagles compliation, features pretty much all these singles with more added ("Hotel California" for instance), but I didn't get the same feel to it as I did with this one. This one is to much of a legend to be replaced. It really is.
"Take It Easy" is probably The Eagles finest track. I think ... Read More:

I have been a fan for many years and own this album already on vinyl and cd.It is one of the classic albums of all time and I play it regularly, but this is no different in sound to any other format I have.If your going to sell it as something different you would at least expect SACD or DVD audio.
Release Date June 18, 1999
Having purchased this item myself and with two 'Universal Players' capable of playing surround DVD-Audio (and SACD), I can confirm that unfortunately this item is just DTS Surround and does NOT contain DVD-Audio. I say this because a DVD-Audio option does not appear when the disc is loaded into a DVD-Audio player, nor is there any mention of DVD-Audio in the accompanying packaging with the disc. A shame, because the Surround Sound is good even with DTS (but is likely to have been even better with the higher bit and sampling rate of DVD-Audio). Therefore just 3 stars, because the sound won't be any better than the DVD (with DTS), which also includes the video of the concert.
