I never thought on the follow up to the incredible success 'Rapture' that Ms.Baker would ever again be able to give us the same quality, but she has, she's followed the same winning formula, deep throated vocals with deep sensuous romantic songs, however on this album it feels more chilled out rather than too heavy. I would say the songs i liked the most were 'Good Love', very deep very romantic very Anita, 'Rules' it reminds me of 'Watch Your Step' from 'Rapture' because it's slightly more upbeat, 'Priceless' again it's a really plesent moderately upbeat number, 'Lead Me Into Love' a slow jam, romantic and soft, excellent song, 'Good Enough' very classy attempt from Anita as always, and 'Just Because' a very easy going number that's also very ... As a maniacal fan of Anita Baker I love all her albums, especially Rapture, Compositions is however an even more polished and timeless masterpiece, truly underrated and perfect. Not one weak song on an album of pure excellence from arguably one of finest artists of the last thirty years.
Release Date November 18, 1991
This was actually Anita's debut and not the aforementioned Rapture. Good though that also was this to me was her pivotal moment. Although initially released only in the US, the success of Rapture eventually led its release worldwide.
Her voice lacks the smooth finesse of later releases, being less polished in some ways, but this is gutsy, raw soul with real emotion, so much that you can almost get swept away in the orchestrated arrangements.
So many good moments on this wonderful CD - No More Tears though has to be my favourite - for all the reasons stated above. This album rightly deserves its place as a soul classic. All self respecting soul fans should have a copy.

I have four albums by Anita Baker: the others being Rapture, Giving You The Best That I Got and Compositions.
Her first album, Rapture, is easily her best with neither of the following two coming near that very high standard. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad albums, but Rapture was something extra special.
The fourth album. Rhythm of Love, comes closest to emulating Rapture without actually succeeding.
Anita's voice and her singing are excellent and are what makes her the supreme artist that she is and on Rhythm of Love the quality of the songs is nearly up to Rapture's standard. The songs are, however, not as catchy as on the first album and that is the biggest difference between them.

I hadnt heard of anita baker until my wedding day. My husband had "giving you the best that i got" dedicated to me. The words are fabulous, since then i have listened to many of her songs, a fantasic singer.

Being 22 I became a fan of Anita Baker through older fans and fell in love with rapture. This must be her finest work to date, polished classic Baker, fantastic, especially "Serious"; "How does it feel" and "Close you're eyes". All the tracks, however, are top rate. Buy it, and listen repeatedly, as quality music grows on you every time you hear it again. Well done Anita.
This is a great album. Great songs, lovely mood to it. But the one stand out song, that is head and shoulders above the rest? Is You've got to give me room. That is s spine tingling classic, what range and control, tear invoking at it's best.
Overall. If you are new to Oleta, get this, it is the best. All good songs. Remember the best's of do not have You've got to give me room. That is worth the money alone.

I have booked a trip to London in December and have bought tickets to see Oleta Adams at the Barbican. As I did not feel too familiar with her work I ordered this very well priced CD. It has a real variety of styles from soul and gospel and the voice is amazing. Realy looking forward to the concert and can also highly recommend this CD particularly "Get Here" and the cover of Elton Johns "Dont Let the Sun Go Down on Me"

This is a great soul collection. This girl and two guys (from Peckham, South London) really made some classic club hits which bring back great memories of the 1980's. If you missed them back then or were born a bit later, then catch up by buying this collection. It contains all their hits including Don't Be A Fool, Slow Down, Hanging On a String, Choose Me and Golden Years (a David Bowie remake!) This is a well produced classic soul album that still sounds really fresh today and can still rock the dancefloor! Check it out!!
