I have read some of the knowledgeable and wordy reviews on this album. I would only add 'SIMPLY THE BEST' from EmmyLou. Every track should be listened to every time you place it on the CD player tray. Simply top quality.
Release Date June 09, 2008
I liked this album a lot. It starts off strong and gets better through to the two songs at the end, which for me were the highlights. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful voice, beautiful music, beautifully produced. A melancholy album pretty much through and through I felt, and that would be my only criticism. Nothing pacey and upbeat to help mix it up a bit. Four stars from me.
Release Date July 01, 1996
I am of the 'Punk Generation' and went off Emmylou when it all started happening in London. Now I can't listen to that stuff, cept for nostalgia reasons, while I'm having great fun catching up with some of the stuff I missed. And this is a great one! The Tucon Sessions is another. Emmylou is just so musical and this has added poignancy as it is about her relationship with Gram Parsons. Click 'add to basket' now :)

Rarely has music moved me as much as Emmylou Harris' last two albums, "Red Dirt Girl" and the sublime "Wrecking Ball". Listening to these albums became almost a spiritual experience, the music is that good; beautiful, uplifting, heart-breaking. So it is with a great deal of disappointment that i must admit just how inferior Emmylou's latest offering is. The problem isn't however with the song writing, but the over-precious, over-the-top production, which is at best too glossy and at worst plain cheesy. It's such a shame because these unnecessary flourishes really take from emmylou's distinctive delivery and fine songwriting. There are still many moments to admire here, like the lovely 'i will dream', the june carter/ johnny cash tribute 'strong hand' and 'lost unto ... Read More:

I really love this album. Emmyloyu has a great voice! She is one of the best female singers ever! The songs "Bluebird Wine", "Sleepless Nights", and "Boulder to Birmingham" are so beautiful and good! This is a 70's classic!
Release Date October 29, 2007
I can respect Robert Plant for his work with Led Zeppelin (nearly 40 years ago) and Alison Krauss is a major talent with the Union Station but this just does not work. The production by T Bone Burnett is good but the material is poor and boring. It neither one thing (Rock) nor another (Country/Bluegrass). Having read the reviews beforehand I borrowed this CD from my library prepared for a probable disappointment and it certainly lived up to that.

I always had a problem with Country as a youngster, growing up as I did in a working class English town and hooked on Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Sabbath. Though I could listen to Johnny Cash, some of the female country stars of the time (Tammy Wynette etc) really grated on me.
I bought this collection on a whim while working out in California a couple of years ago. This was the first time I really listened to her as a recording artist in her own right, though I was familiar with her work with Gram Parsons and her excellent backing vocals on Dylan's Desire.
I must say that this album blew me away. Her voice is totally exquisite and it is little wonder that her talents been in such demand over the years. Though The Grateful Dead first introduced me to country, Emmylou ... Read More:

This album, in its original vinyl form, was my first full bluegrass album. It starts impressively with the up-tempo title track and maintains a high standard throughout the original album. I replaced my vinyl with CD, since when Rhino have re-mastered it and added two bonus tracks (You're gonna change, Root like a rose) that I'm told are good but not bluegrass. In any case, this album is well worth it for the original ten tracks.
Wayfaring stranger, a traditional song, became a top ten country hit and ensured the success of the album against record company expectations. This was 1980, remember, when Kenny Rogers was the biggest name in country music and the Urban Cowboy craze was at its height. I love Kenny's music and the Urban Cowboy soundtrack, but there are many different types of country ... Read More:

After making a classic album "Pieces of the Sky"...in the same year is released "Elite Hotel" which contains many classic songs, such as "Together Again", and "One of These Days". This is great country music but "Sin City" is a boring song, other songs are great!
Release Date March 01, 2004
Traditional country masterpiece Blue Kentucky Girl is a real roots country album, both in the sound and the nature imagery of the songs, as is obvious from titles like Beneath Still Waters, Hickory Wind, Sorrow In The Wind and Rough & Rocky.
The rhythmic uptempo number Sister's Coming Home with its great fiddle opens the album, and is followed by the stirring slow ballad Beneath Still Waters. Hickory Wind is the Gram Parsons song, and of course Emmylou makes it her own with a soulful, delicate interpretation. The execution is quite different from her duet with Gram Parsons.
This recording of Save The Last Dance For Me is probably the definite version by now, whilst Sorrow In The Wind is a poignant gentle song full of yearning, where the harmony vocals of Cheryl and Sharon White are ... Read More:
