i have watched this film about a hundred times but i don't get sick of it it's just amazing not to mention the main song is my favourate of all time (maybe because of this film??) Wind Beneth my winds needs no introduction everybody knows it and if you listen to the lyrics it basically tells you the story of beaches

This is Bette Midler's finest film role and acting of her whole career. She was nominated for an Oscar, but sadly lost out, which was such a shame. There have been a couple of other films, Beaches, but sadly not the same emotion and punch.

I watched `The Rose' years and years ago, it was playing on Channel 4 over a Christmas period. I purchased this a couple of months ago, and even today it is NOT out dated. The performance from Bette Midler is awesome, funny, moving and tragic. Even after nearly 30 years, the ending still made me cry. The last song Bette sings, toward the end of the film, is just SOOOO powerful and moving.

The movie "The Rose" tells the story of a rock star's descent into the crazy, chaotic, self-destructive world of drug addiction along with her rise to fame. The soundtrack mirrors that but, for me, it does too good a job. The music starts off harsh and overpowering, but with glimmers of quality and meaning. As the soundtrack progresses, the music descends into chaotic harshness and loses its quality and meaning.
And then, just as you want to turn it off and throw it away, because it's so painful, there is the song "The Rose". What a great voice and a good selection of songs. From simple love songs, in some cases with a piano to powerful fast moving 1940's sounding music. With driving trumpets and brass and some close Andrew type sisters backing vocals EXCELLENT.
I just park my Flying Fortress, and will join you in the officers club. If she was born then? She would have been the forces sweetheart, a lot more raunchier and sexier version. Bye Bye Vera.

Favourite track? Not tracks?? So I have to pick just one. Very hard.... let me listen to it again. I have had this CD for years, picked up at a second hand CD shop in the early 90'S.

The Divine Miss Midler

There are two versions of Friends on the original, tracks #1 and #6 on side two of the album. The US released it under false pretenses as well. Friends appears twice, but it is the same version. Sloppy to say the least. Such a brilliant album, falsely adverstised. Hope they get their act together. I would wait for the real deal before buying this.

I own both the film and sound track cd and as a fan of both artists found them v enjoyable. Bette Midler has the ability to make you laugh and cry with her usual outstanding performance whilst James Caan gives a great tongue in cheek portrayal of loud big headed Eddie Sparks who through excellent writing and a top notch performance you still end up caring about.
