If you like the voices of Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald at their melancholy best then you'll like this CD.
Madeleine Peyroux has the reputation for being an offbeat and thoughtful character. Maybe because she takes her art so seriously. Strange fruit that is essentially beautiful.
Release Date October 30, 2006
The first few tracks are the heart and soul of this album. "I'm All Right" the first, is probably the best. "Summer Wind" is a sweet ballad - rock steady beat with gentle softly swooping vocals - very nice. "Blue Alert" - this is a good number that bops along nicely but Peyroux's vocals lack the edge and attack that would have made it something special. Still - it grows on you.
"Everybodys Talkin" is just an incredibly dull rendition of a clasic song. Truly dreadful.
There isn't much to say about the rest of the album only two other tracks are worthy of note: "Little Bit" co-written by Peyroux is a pretty good number - I hope to hear more of her own material on future albums.
"The Heart of Saturday Night" is one of those ... Read More:

This has to be one of my favourite albums that I own. I wasnt a huge fan of her Careless Love album - contraversial statement I know :-)
Maddy has a fantastic voice, slightly more blusey on this album. Couple with the brilliant harmonica player William Gailson. This album is quite different from her others, but well worth the listen.
Favourite tracks are the Scorpian and the Frog and Heaven Help us all.

I was afraid, that Diana Krall was travelling the downward slopes of becaming a syruppy pop singer.
I don't know who put her, temporarily, in that wrong path, but maybe it was Claus Oggerman. In the Paris Olympia Concert on DVD, despite all compliments, she is playing against Oggerman's orchestra and she shines with a small rythm section, even if her left hand cannot give us bass notes on the piano. With any good bass player, and sound engineer, it is easilly overcame.
Now, in this wonderfull album she devellopped the cooperation with great jazz musicians. Her voice has darkened a little and that is essential for a jazz singer (no pun intended).
Next time, even if it is still too early in what will be a long life, give us "Body and Soul", with Jack ... Read More:

Diana Krall has been my favorite way to introduce "non jazz lovers" to the genre. Her mellow voice and piano playing style seem to please most everyone. But this record alone (My favorite by far from her), has been responsible for most of the "conversions" to the jazz cause. Specially through "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". A great, great album by any standards. A "must have" to any music lover. A great tribute to one of the best Piano Player/voices in music history - Nat King Cole.

Can't sing, is out of tune, has no concept of what a good song is or how to present one, doesn't listen to jazz, doesn't like jazz, and was dropped from her record label! Need I go on?
Release Date November 11, 2002
This is one of my favourite CDs. Playing it on a high end hi-fi system shows it to be a superb recording, (and don't be put off by the fact it is LIVE), and has Diana Krall singing and playing in superb jazz style. What a pity she no longer makes good jazz CDs like this one.
Release Date August 25, 2003
Although Diana Krall might not be first choice for the best jazz singer in the world she still manages to drip her lyrics like honey over the already sumptuous arrangements in this collection of standards. Her vocals are at once languid and precise, distant and intense and when added to the bittersweet, fully orchestral back-ups, it all comes together in a most intoxicating way. A definite grower; for the impatient listener a first take might be their last but with subsequent plays, the nuances blossom until you realise that you are hearing something rather special.

These are the words of one reviewer from across the pond - on the basis of the wonderful reviews that have been posted thus far, I recently added this superb album to my CD library...and with only one listen, I can see what people like Michael Parkinson were raving about. Please, DO NOT compare Clare Teal with other singers of her day (Jane Monheit, Diana Krall, Jamie Cullum, Norah Jones, Michael Buble, and so on) as she is in her own league.
The entire album (from the Peggy Lee-ish "Messin' with Fire" to the bluesy "I Just Want to Make Love to You") is amazing - not a clunker in the bunch. Clare is equally at home with standards, rock-era classics like the title track, and her own material (loved "Everything is You"), and I find it very tough to pick a favorite song, though her treatment of "Stoned ...
