This is my 3rd Counting Crows album and I was not dissappointed. You always know that you won't be let down with Counting Crows, there is not a bad song on here. Colourblind is probably my favourite, I think because I had heard this on the Cruel Intentions soundtrack and loved it, other songs worthy of a mention are 'Mrs Potters Lullaby', 'Four Days' and 'High Life'. Well worth a listen, good driving music as well.

After hearing Mr Jones i decided to get the Counting Crows first album 'August and Everything After.' That album blew me away and made me an avid fan of the counting crows. The next step was to buy this album, their second studio album.
I didn't really know what to expect, did i want an album that was the same to the first, or a new sound? What i got was something in between, and the results were once again spectacular.
The thing that made me love August and Everything after was the intro track 'Round Here' and i thought that the band would need to start the album in emphatic fashion in order to impress me. The first song on this album is an instant classic, called 'Catapult' it is such a fast intro that you will feel like ... Read More:

I'm a big fan of Counting Crows, unusually because it's mid-american rock which i'm not always a fan of but there's a great feeling of depth and integrity about them
This album is easily their most disappointing - they've departed from their usual territory which is not a bad thing in itself but in this case they've simply adopted too many musical styles without enough panache to carry it off
basically i'd give all their other albums a 4.5, but this is a three because only just over half the songs are good

It pains me to say it, but after much time spent genuinely trying to like this album and find some quality in it I have to say its dissapointing. It's not terrible by any stretch but its just bland. Like so many have stated before me it just fails to live up to previous works, I mean it really dosen't sit with the others at all. It feels like a tired re-working of previous efforts and themes. Maybe 'Live' some of these tracks may jump out, but I feel doubtful when you know the likes of Mr.Jones, Round Here, Long December, Mrs. Potters Lullaby are coming. The Crows are and probably will always be one of my favourite bands and I know the depths this band can take you to, but I guess Im growing up a little at 30! but I don't know if this band is growing with me. ... Being too young to remember the original Counting Crows boom in the Nineties, I approached this album with some trepidation, unsure what to expect. And it blew me away.
It opens with Angels of the Silences, a very loud, powerful rock track (and not one of my favourites - I prefer the more acoustic version on Across a Wire). It moves straight on to Round Here, a track which took a while to grow on me, but when it did, it became one of my all time favourite songs, and remains so.
Rain King is fairly upbeat and cheerful, and A Long December is slightly more wistful, whilst Hanginaround is more of a swing record - all three pretty good, if slightly unremarkable.
Mrs Potter's Lullaby is the longest song on the album, but it'll pass a ... Read More:

i love counting crows, especially the first and second albums. there's a raw, honest emotion to them that seems to have left the crows' more recent effort, hard candy. the disillusion i felt with the band's latest work left me wanting a return to the good old days, so when i discovered this early live album and read the rave reviews on amazon i bought it on spec with great anticipation.
and fair's fair. a lot of work and talent went into this. it is a testament to counting crows that they are able to incorporate so much improvisation into a live show and still stay tight. but i feel that in doing so they have bypassed much of what makes the crows such a hugely listenable band. the massive amount of technically excellent improvised reworking of rhythm and melody has rendered ... There is something earthy and basic about this live recording. Right from the first few bars of Rain King it is true Counting Crows style and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Full to the brim with old favourites (Mr Jones) and now new favourites (St Robinson In His Cadillac Dream)it is the perfect companion and a must for CC fans.

There are a lot of reviews on this album, time and time again Nevermind seems to stretch its fuzzy head and look over, all I can say is ,to me Nevermind has some good tracks and Ten has some brilliant. its impossible to even compare them with each other, a bit like saying Grand Funk Railroad ( early years ) were like the Mahavishnu orchestra. total difference Pearl Jam are a clever group of musicians who write play and express themselves perfectly, the Nevermind crew had a few catchy riffs.
