The Priests

A wonderfully uplifting performance given by these 3 Priests along with singers from the Bascilica in Rome.The Vivaldi Gloria along with the Spanish Carol Hacia Belen are stupendous. What more can I say, except I hope that we will hear more from these three men and the choir to back them. A very moving talented performance.

A wonderfully uplifting performance given by these 3 Priests along with singers from the Bascilica in Rome.The Vivaldi Gloria along with the Spanish Carol Hacia Belen are stupendous. What more can I say, except I hope that we will hear more from these three men and the choir to back them. A very moving talented performance.

Chant

This Cistercian abbey has a continous history since its foundation. My only criticsm is that according to the Rule Cistercians should chant in the Ambrosian mode - very slow & ponderous, and this CD is a little too fast. One of the plus points is that Cistercians do not have choir boys so the overall effect is a deeper more inspiring chant.

Anyone who was brought up in Ireland or as a Catholic in England will find themselves transported back to their childhood by this CD of hymns.

Forget moden hymns, ths CD features "Hail Queen of Heaven", "Hail Glorious St Patrick", "Sweet Heart of Jesus" and others. A reminder of how powerful the old hymns are compared to the watered-down modern substitutes.

The Love Album

This album is different to any of their others, as it seems to be a weird selection of solo performances by Shane and Mark (not complaining on the Mark point). Some of the tracks do mix the vocals, but in large part the the Cutie Blondes (their official names) are basically missing. Even when there are backing vocals by them, you can rarely even recognise their voices.

Having Mark singing, using more of his amazing potential (particularly on track 2) is fantastic to hear. His voice is effortless and has a sense of soul that I don't think Shane's does, however great. So again, not complaining here. It is odd though that the album is solo/duo/band/hint of 'boyband'. Catechism of the Catholic Church

There are many versions of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and even many different editions of each of those versions, so one would beg the question why review a book so readily available and so accessible. That would be a good question to ask. There is the `original edition' the `second edition' and now there is also a `definitive edition' so why would we examine this work?

The answer is that like with Shakespeare, for which there are innumerable editions each reader tends to gravitate towards a specific version or set of editions. This is as good as all the reviews claim. However we still need to wait for the Shogun Redux version since this is NOT the complete version. There remain many scenes (I recall four vividly) which would deepen and extend the experience; turn it, if you like, from a concerto to the symphony it first was. It is a pity it is described as complete when patently it is not.
