i dont want to slag off what real world do because they are instrumental in bringing some of the most fantastic singers/musicians from all over the world to our attention. the problem is that the second western musicians take control of production they tend to dilute the soul in the music by adding preset synths, etc. why cant they keep it simple and with no computer beats please!to be fair this album is nowhere near the worst example of this problem but the production is just too polished for my taste. its frustrating because if only the great man had been produced by the likes of holger czukay, david sylvian or eno, etc the sound would have still been commercial enough but it would have been more organic and therefore would be timeless. never ... If you would like to truly experience the transcendent power of rythm, harmony and the human voice, and to explore some of the deeper recesses of the human spirit at the same time, then you really MUST listen to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and his group.
I first experienced Nusrat some 10 years or so ago on Channel 4 while late-night channel surfing. In an instant I was rooted to my chair, my remote-control hand frozen in mid-air. NEVER had I heard anything so utterly and literally entrancing. Indeed, without understanding a word of what was being sung, I involuntarily found myself on my feet, eyes closed, arms up, swaying and shuffling to the music. It was only when I fell over the coffee table that I came to my senses enough to scribble ... Read More:

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is one of the most emotive and eloquent singers of his generation. For anyone who is interested in hearing pure qawalli in its most fundamental form, then this is the album to buy. While I feel that modern mixes probably resonate with his newest fans, to truly appreciate his talent and to observe his connection with god, then this is definitely the album to enlighten and to enrich all of his fans. The first song, Shamas Ud Doha, is easily the most powerful qawalli I have ever heard.
Release Date October 26, 1992
Classic qawalli CD from the maestro himself. Two songs reach GOdlike status namely Woh Hata and Sanson Mala. The vocals are superb and the listen is in itself a deeply spiritual experience.
Release Date June 16, 2008
Wonderful and haunting. It sounds both contemporary, seventies and has more than a hint of old 19th century American folk music about it.
Release Date May 28, 1991
The opening piece is about Al-Hallaj the Sufi who was martyred on the cross. Not only is the music infectious and the rhythm and singing ecstatic but the song is about one of the greatest Muslim Sufi Mystics, the man who was so God-intoxicated he claimed 'I am God', 'I am the truth'. The orthodoxy of the day found this talk heretical and promptly had him crucified.
Then the last track: Jewleh Lal
Perhaps the best Qawwali piece I have ever heard. It has an intoxicating rhythm and musical structure and the improvisations move the ensemble to such a climax that you feel yourself lifting up towards the heavens.
Don't miss out the opportunity of picking this up.
Release Date May 31, 1999
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is clearly a unique individual, capable of producing a sound unlike any other I've every heard. I felt like I was looking for this album my whole life and only recently discovered it and him. Perhaps there is beauty in the fact that his music is hidden to most.Sab Vird Karo Allah Allah is truly uplifting. This music transcends you to another place, taking you through every emotional height in its wake. Explosive. GO Buy It.

Hey pop pickers! Do you despair at the state of British indie music? Need that itch seriously scratching? Man,this is one wild and groovy ride. Weird and wonderful and very much deserving the attention of any curious and open minded music fan.I ain't no world music fan ,but the currently very stale indie scene forces one to search further afield to satisfy ones needs. If you like this, watch the film: Broken flowers (Bill Murray). Alot of this music soundtracks that film brilliantly. Also try Tinariwen (for seriously cool desert blues)or Kasai allstars.
We have people like Damon Albarn to thank for drawing our attention to such brilliant music. Nice one.Fair play to bands like Vampire weekend and The Good, the bad and the queen for mixing it up with sound results ... Read More:

I'm no world music expert, but from time to time something comes along from outside the English speaking world that demands my attention. 'Aman Iman' is such an album. These Touareg musicians from the Western Sahara create a music whose 'otherness' is obvious, yet which is immediately accessible to western sensibilities. Their music evokes the solitude of the desert and the loneliness of exile, and yet is life affiriming and joyous. It's a thrumming, hypnotic, even foot-stomping sound, not obviously African, with arabic influences and hints of the blues, and deserves a wider audience.
