For all the people in the beginning that said that the Carpenters were no good, this album said a huge "WE ARE BRILLIANT MUSICIANS" with lights around it. From start to finish, no tracks are repetitive, headache-inducing or elevator background music. The Carpenters were (and still are) the best in easy listening/AOR. This album is usually listed in books of "must own albums" and is for countless good reasons. This album is everything that most popular music lacks nowadays. 10/10

As Time Goes By

As a Carpenters fan it has taken me far too long to buy this album but I can say that it's worth the wait. It's been put together by Richard Carpenter and illustrates again his perfection and desire to keep his Sisters memory alive.

Lots of highlights. For me the two 'work lead' tracks 'Leave yesterday behind' (another Carpenters track with the word 'yesterday' in the title) and 'The Rainbow Connection' are the highlights. I've never heard Kermit the frog singing the latter so had no preconceptions and to me sounded just like a brand new Carpenters track with the distictive voice and sound production. If these are 'work leads' then they're pretty damn fine.

Horizon

This is my all time favourite Carpenters album.
A collection of some well know hits and some album gems.
The album opens with a beautiful haunting prelude-Aurora, and closes with Eventide with the same music style as the opening track.
Hits such as Yesterday once more and Please Mr Postman are always delights to hear, yet it's the very moving Neil Dimond track-Solitaire that is the highlight of this album, priceless, Karen's voice was perfect for tracks like this.
The biggest treat after Solitaire is Happy, a very different track to the former.

A Song For You

This smooth, relaxing album is a classic from The Carpenters. Karens' voice eases your troubles as she takes you through 12 songs and ends with a reprise of the title track which also starts the album, "A Song For You". This song is a true masterpiece, Karens' voice pulls on the strength of the instruments and draws them into angelic pitch with her haunting tones. This is one of their first album releases and from listening to the songs it's easy to see how they've acclaimed so many loyal fans. Song two on the album cannot be compared to another, "Top of the World", a top ten single of the early 70's, the stomping pop, easy melody and fun lyrics make it impossible to not sing along to it! I especially like the unmistakeable Carpenter harmonies in that song.

any album by the Carpenters is special, With richard's masterful ear for a song and pruduction talents, and Karens rich, sweet as honey voice is a winning combination. this album is beautiful. look out for 'a place to (hideaway)' a spine tingling ballad garuanteed to have you crying into your hanky.

Love Songs

This collection of the Carpenters' love songs is excellent for anyone who loves any type of music. Possibly the only band who can count both Sonic Youth and members of Steps as their fans, their perfomances on every song are second to none. The more upbeat songs, such as "Close To You" and "Top Of The World" are pleasant enough, but in my opinion, it is on the more angst-ridden songs where they excell. Like it says in "All You Get From Love Is A love Song", 'the best love songs are written with a broken heart'. "Rainy Days and Mondays", "Superstar" and "This Masquerade" are all perfect, and my personal favourite, "A Song For You", is the ultimate song that sums up all of the emotions which love encompasses. I was never a fan of The Carpenters back in the seventies when I was a teenager. After hearing a track in a cd store, I bought this cd as it was such a bargain!. It's a great cd!. The sound quality is great and the cd contains great hits like "I Need To Be In Love" and "Ticket To Ride" as well as great songs like "Baby It's You","Can't Smile Without You" and "A Song For You". If you are looking for an introduction to The Carpenters, or are looking for a cd that doesn't just contain singles....this is for you!.

I don't think I could ever have called myself a Carpenters fan but their music has always been with me and it was truly astounding to see how much of it is still available , much of it (as this is) remastered. What I had forgotten was how polished their performances were and what a gob-smackingly beautiful voice Karen had . What a shame she's no longer with us.
This is one of their earlier offerings and features the Bacherach and David medley ( chunks of which turn up , slightly re-arranged on other albums)which I have a feeling may have been part of their Cabaret set from their travelling days. Ultimate Collection

The Carpenters are surely one of those romantic must haves in your record collection? If you want to buy a really good comprehensive collection of songs by the Carpenters on one CD, this one makes a bucket load of sense. Kind of hush, Interplanetary Craft, Solitaire, Yesterday once more,Close to you, Jambalaya and many more, they are all here. The Carpenters were always lovely to listen to, and won many fans at the time and later. The fact that they were so prolific too, was amazing. Most of the songs here were played to death and were often high up in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic. The fact that so many good ones are on here makes this album well worth buying.
