There's no doubt that 'Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels' was a magnificent example of a new film maker at his creative best. With Snatch though it feels like Guy Ritchie found his comfort zone and set up permanent camp there.
The film contains some very clever dialogue, and many of the characters display a deep philosophical intelligence you don't expect from a thug - this brings humour and style, but it also seems as though the film tries a bit too hard to be 'Lock, Stock...'.
Jack-the-Lads, guns, snappy dressers, and uber-cool lines initially grace the screen nicely, but it eventually comes clear that these are being shoe-horned in to build a trendy flick. But when you can see through it - it just doesn't work. ... Read More:

The producers of Layer Cake tried very hard to shape this standard gangster fare into something fresh, cool and original. They failed.
Matthew Vaughn who produced Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch lazily decided to produce yet another gangster flick, without Guy Ritchie, as a vehicle to move him into the mainstream as a director.
Having a proven track record in the genre, it was a safe bet the film would find an audience, however I assume he couldn't produce a film with any similarity to Lock, Stock and decided to produce this rubbish instead.
I also couldn't stomach the publicity overload for this film, which was plain perplexing. Nobody seemed to understood what a hot iron scorching the bonnet ... Read More:

I liked this film when I first saw it and now I have changed my mind with repeated watching. Like all Tarantino films, the dialogue between characters is unnatural. It feels like one person talking to themselves. The characters all talk in this faux intelligent geeky way about tiny things and there is no discernable differences between outlook or delivery of the characters words. The story doesn't hang together very well and the use of celebrity cameos is just celuloid cronyism. I fell for the hype, save your time and money and don't buy into this trash. Travolta is a fake, Jackson can't act, QT is annoying, Thurman is lovely, Keitel is cheesey and not at all hard like he makes out. There is too much wrong with this film to call it a classic. It's silly. ... Read More:

1* isn't for the film (which is 5* and then some) but for this DVD.
ITS A DUAL SIDER DVD - yep, flip over halfway through the movie, you know when you're nice and comfy?, snuggled up on the sofa with the wife? enjoying one of cinema's defining films?
YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND TURN THE BLOODY DVD OVER TO WATCH THE SECOND HALF OF THE FILM!!!!!
I mean, please accept my apologies, but I thought we were in the 21st century? I havent had to turn anything over since listening to my 'Best of the Clash' LP back in the early 90's pre CD days!
Why this DVD is still available I don't know.
Buy the special edition instead and watch one of cinema's greatest achievements UN-INTERRUPTED.

Iam more like a house-kind-of person. But this soundtrack is super !!. classic english tunes, electric beat. Great to hear this one
Having watched this movie for the first time in ten years, I was blown away by its brilliance and power. Lets get down to the brass tacks- this is a low-budget movie and it has a cheap amateur patina. First movie from the big-chin Quentin Tarantino who came out of nowhere (i.e., a video store in Manhattan Beach, California) and turned Hollywood on its ear in 1992 with this breath of fresh air.
Reservoir Dogs has a fantastic unconventional structure, cleverly shuffling back and forth in time to reveal details about the characters, experienced criminals who know next to nothing about each other.
From the start we know something has gone wrong, and the plan has blown up in the criminals faces. One by one, the surviving robbers find their way ... Read More:

If an Australian seller hadn't misrepresented their Crosby,Stills, and Nash DVDs as Region 1, when in actuality they were Region 2s, I never would have invested in a Regions-free player, and began broadening my horizons, thereby finding this GEM to be not only out-of-print at home, but only available in Blu Ray ! We've never had a 2 disc edition that I'm aware of, and when this one arrived (QUICKLY I might add), my son and I devoured it ! Nearly,or just over 2 hours of extras is a real treat, on top of the crystal clear, vivid widescreen print of the film itself. Thank you AmazonUK.

I expect that if your buying this you'll know what its about so I'll review on the quality of the image if I may. Some films, especially older ones have a poor quality transfer onto DVD, though not this one. Colours and detail are first class, offering up a bright colourful image devoid of any nasties (blocking etc. If you've seen DVDs of the orignial Star Wars the picture quality is on a par with them.
