Shaman

Shaman is the follow-up to the hugely successful "Supernatural". Like its predecessor, each song on the album has a different guest appearing with the band. This is a similar formula to the Jools Holland "Friends" series albums and is obviously very popular although, for me, is not ideal. This is because the album as a whole loses some of its coherency as a result of all of the different artists appearing and I prefer a more unified feel on albums.

Nothing wrong with the music mind - there's some fine songs on here - and they'll sound great when they appear on your mp3 player's random shuffle, but the album loses one star through this lack of a consistent feel.

the best of santana brillant album its a mixture of this guitar players and bands tallant from the mellow up lifting samba pati with its dreamy guitar start and rising tempo that shows off carlos on form! to shes not there with it really wicked guitar breaks and stops not to forget the unbelivable tallants of all the precussion from the triangle to the bongos and much more if you are thinking of buying a santana album this is a good choice i luv it there brillant.

Caravanserai: Remastered

I think this is the best santana album (at least studio album because then theres Lotus live in Japan) and serves as a masterclass in the fusion of so many musics yet it sounds so pure and it still amazes how all the influences can be heard so clearly but at the same time everything about this album is so unique...Everytime i hear it it impresses me even more how the songs transition into one another so seamlessly and it is almost over as soon as it had began.

Anyways, highly recommended album for guitar fans, jazz fans, early santana stuff, woodstock fans...you see where im going here, worth buying by just having "all the love in the universe"

Advice for those pondering over buying this:

This wasn't the first Santana album I purchased (it won't be the last either) but it sat on my wanted list for quite some time.

Boy do I wish I'd bought it sooner.

The album is book-ended by two very percussive and imaginative pieces, "Spring Manifestations" and "Borboletta". I make no apologies for the following cliches - but the rest of the ambum is a wonderfully colourful, vibrant mix of latin jazz infused funk and rhythm. But that doesn't mean it isn't accessible. Santana: Limited Edition

In my experience few things divide people - as far as music is concerned - than the Hammond organ. Its sound is something people either love or loathe. I cant abide its cheesy end-of-the-pier fairground tones and find it's the one thing that tends to mar early Santana albums, that and Greg Rolie's pretty non-descript vocals. Santana's guitar work does the job OK enough but for me the core strength of Santana has always been the rhythm section, the sticksmanship of Mike Shrieve, the pounding polyrhythms of the percussionists and the solid basswork. The actual tunes here are generally great esp Jingo and frankly you'd have to be dead not to find this album great for dancing. All That I Am

Supernatural is generally very good. I still enjoy playing Smooth (gets a good audience reaction too!).
Shamen has it's moments too, and I put it on regularly.
This album, on the other hand, being the third Santana album to follow the "get as many guests as possible to play/write/do all the work" method...is a huge let-down.

The songs might as well be ones the "guests" discarded from their own releases, or else have no place on a "Santana" album. His guitar playing definitely has no place on several of the cuts. "I Am Somebody" with will.i.am (WHO??!!!!!) is a case in point. Mediocre dance number, then Santana suddenly blasts out like he was improvising over a click track, with no idea what else was going on.
