best wu-tang album ever, its even better than the clans debut album 36 chambers, rza was on top of his game when he produced this hip-hop masterpiece and the gza's voice and rappin style suits the clans music more than any of the other members
Release Date February 10, 1997
If there is one album in hip-hop history that should be heard by every music fan then it is Nasir Jones' Illmatic, released in 1994. Although this album is over a decade old, it still stands head and shoulders above anything that is being released today. Why? It has the two key components of a great rap album, fantastic production and incredible lyricism.
Some people may be put off by the short track listing, only 10 tracks (1 of which is an intro) but don't be. Although the album is only about 40 minutes long, it is 40 unforgettable minutes that you will want to hear over and over again.
From a lyrical perspective, this album has probably never been equaled. Whether it is multi's, wordplay, internal rhyming, story-telling, whatever ... Read More:

I heard this album back in the early 90ies when it was released, and was hooked. recently introduced it to many of my teenaged nephews and they admit it is a superb piece of music. every single track is strong and oozes style, lyrical poetry and rhythm.
Simply put it is one of the all time Great Hip-Hop albums, which is and will be heard in years to come.

This album has you in two minds. The first time I listened to it I thought it was o.k but nothing special. But after a few listens, it just gets to you. Its hard to explain but you will like it more on the 2nd or 3rd listen. Some of the beats are crazy and untouchable. R.I.P ODB.

Why anyone has any interest in this sort of noise is beyond me. There is no melody, it is rhythmically repetitive and cliched, lyrically it is boring, dirivitive, full of childsh rhymes, says nothing positive, sounds aggressive and there is little or no chord structure at all. Sounds like a million wasps following a thousand fire engines in a war zone. Dreadful. Woeful as a 'music' form.

After conquering the rap world on the 1st wu tang clan album, mef was one of the 1st wu members to go solo.Tical is hands down, 1 of the best wu solo cds i've ever heard. The concept of the album is a dark, gothic tone produced by the rza which will keep you hooked straight away! It starts with a strange little flute melody which keeps with the albums tone and then launches into the title track. Not the best track on there, but like all of de songs on this, but is pretty damn good. Track 2 biscuits,is again, not the best, but still amazing.3;Bring the pain is 1 of the standouts on this cd and is an amazing track for mef.All i need is a tribute to his girlfriend which is sensitive, but by no means soppy. What the blood clot is another awesome track, but 4 me it doesn't ... First bona fide Rap album I ever bought back in the late '80s. I confess, it was Thrash Metal veterans, Anthrax constantly banging on about them that convinced me!
Great album with perhaps the most intelligent lyrics ever written for a Rap cd - even though I don't agree with many of the opinions expressed, I respect them.
A production that was way ahead of the time, with great beats, basslines & samples, with a near perfect vocal balance between the intense and angry Chuck D and the more eccentric Flavor Flav. It's easy to see why this had appeal to the Metal crowd with it's heavy, urban tone, militaristic imagery and incendiary attitudes. Indeed, one track, She Watch Channel Zero features a sample of the riff from Slayer's Angel Of Death. EARLY crossover! ... Read More:

Black Sunday made Cypress Hill's connection to rock & roll more explicit, with its heavy metal-like artwork and noisier, more dissonant samples (including, naturally, stoner icons Black Sabbath). It's a slightly darker affair than its groundbreaking predecessor, with the threats of violence more urgent and the pot obsession played to the hilt (after all, it was a crucial part of their widespread appeal). Apart from those subtle distinctions, the sound of Black Sunday is pretty much the same as Cypress Hill, refining the group's innovations into an accessible bid for crossover success. In fact, it's a little startling how often Black Sunday recycles musical ideas and even lyrical catch phrases from the endlessly inventive debut. And the rock-derived, verse-chorus song structures ... Read More:

Dr Dre is the best producer and one of the best rappers in the game. his productions are brilliant and his rhymes are top quality, the Chronic shows that. With Nuttin but a g thang he has produced one of the best rap songs ever, and a song that changed the game. He has introduced one of the most famous styles of hip hop with The Chronic, and that is G Funk. Also Deeeez Nuts is hilarious!
I used to think this was over rated, i have come to realize that it certainly isn't! Great beats and great lyrics, as well as great guests! One of the best hip hop albums ever and the best old school album, essential
Release Date January 19, 1998
I am heavily into rap and i have many of the classic artist albums such as dr dre, noop dogg, nwa, eazy e, tupac and the rest, im mainly into mainstream but ive gone down to the outside now. This album is absoutely stunning, there are around 10 tracks i could listen to over and over again. Forget 50 cent, forget even eminem! This is the real stuff and possibly one of the best albums ever made in any music genre.
