Fans of Rob Reiner's 1989 romantic comedy "When Harry Met Sally..." will tell you that this Harry Connick, Jr. album that's sold in the Movie Soundtrack section of most music emporiums (including online stores such as this) is not, in fact, from the original motion picture soundtrack. Instead, Columbia Records released this non-soundtrack as When Harry Met Sally...Music From the Motion Picture. Yes, the songs played and sung here by Connick were heard in the movie...but most of them were performed by other artists. This doesn't mean the album is bad; it's not. It just isn't an "original soundtrack album."
That having been said, this 10-track set is an enjoyable collection of romantic standards, some of them now over six decades ... Read More:

Tom Hanks (Big) stars as Sam, a single parent. A year after losing his wife, he is struggling with the loss and to help him, his son Jonah phones a radio station to ask for advice, and Annie from Baltimore hears and knows she must meet up with Sam.
Filled with plenty of romantic conventions, Nora Ephron's 1993 romantic drama creates a light hearted feel good film, with funny and dramatic moments for viewers of all ages.
Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (When Harry met Sally), in their first collaboration, are perfect in their respective role, especially Ryan who is very funny, where as Hanks takes the more serious roles, which he is always perfect at.
But the actor who steals the show is Ross Maligner, who is exceptional ... Read More:

This is a really lovely soundtrack. From old classic tunes to the more up to date rock the You've got mail soundtrack delivers music to everyone's tastes. Well worth checking out even if you haven't seen the movie!
I recently saw two films directed by Norah Ephron. This one and Sleepless in Seattle (1993). Both have held up remarkably well. Curious to know the background (if any) to You've Got Mail, I did a little research. Its basic plot can be traced back to Nikolaus Laszlo's play The Shop Around the Corner which was adapted in a film of the same name directed by Ernest Lubitsch in 1940, co-starring Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. Then in 1949, it was recycled as a musical (re-named In the Good Old Summertime) co-starring Judy Garland and Van Johnson. What we have here is the latest version of Laszlo's original story, brought to the screen again with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the lead roles. In fact, Hanks and Ryan had appeared previously (but together ... Read More:

This is one of the best soundtracks I have ever bought! It combines newer songs, and some oldies, to give it a classic, fun sound. The score, by George Fenton too is wonderful. The compilation of oldie songs includes, "Rockin Robin," "The Dummy Song," and "Splish Splash," to give it this CD a happy, upbeat sound. This soundtrack captures the fun romance of this wonderfully romantic movie. A must have on your Christmas wish-list!!

As a kid growing up, I found Jimmy Durante to have a style that was somewhat comic--and my reaction was exactly what he cultivated as part of his public persona. For those of us who were young during the waning years of his career, Jimmy was a clown.
Even now, no one ever could call his voice beautiful, yet I can think of no more fitting a talent to sing the songs on this CD. His raspy style perfectly fits the original moods of classics such as "As Time Goes By," "I'll Be Seeing You," and "Try A Little Tenderness." Every melody on this CD is a gem, and the way Jimmy styles them simultaneously makes the listener want to weep and to dance. Can there be a higher compliment for a crooner?
Many of you might remember Jimmy Durante as ... Read More:

When i first saw the movie, i fell in love, not with Hugh or Julia's lines but, with the film's fantastic music. This collection of songs has become my favorite ever since and i even danced "She" by Elvis Costelo in my wedding reception. I strongly recommend it

I fell in love with this movie when it first opened in theaters and I loved all the music in it, including the score, and particularly the bit where Colin Firth proposes to Aurelia. But when I bought the CD here in the US, all it had what the popular pop stuff! (I guess they figured Americans wouldn't appreciate the beautiful instrumental music? Probably right actually.) You guys in the UK got the whole deal. It will be well worth the overseas shipping!!
Release Date January 07, 2002
I bought this CD without hearing it before. I loved the film and wasn't disapointed with the soundstrack. It is mellow and romantic - one of those CDs you put on and it's over before you realise you were listening. That, to me, is the sign of the perfect easy listening, mellow, chillout albulm. There are 4-5 really cool tracks and whatever your mood, the music is great. Deffinitely worth the money.
