firstly i should probably say what kinda music i like: most things!
and this is one of those rare albums which is amazing - every track is wonderful. this album, like moon safari, does not disappoint....and i dont really see a massive change in styles - its different to moon safari but its not so different that you would only like moon safari OR talkie walkie.
i only got it this morning and ive now listened to it through 2 times and it is amazing. it has the beauty of cinematic orchestra but with air's unique electronica feel - a calm and masterful piece of work.

Like all the previous reviews, this album is a classic & one that never gets tired, other albums come & go but this one is here to stay, been a massive fan of zero 7 from the beginning since i first heard the sublime "destiny" on a late night chillout radio show, every track on the album is outstanding, wether it's the beautiful instrumental tracks or the ones with vocals,it's simply a pleasure to listen to time & time again,a true classic! Also check out the brilliant "when it falls" album, another excellent release by the outstanding zero 7...

It seems that every alternate AIR album is a good one. Talkie Walkie was a lovely album but Pocket Symphony leaves me cold. There are perhaps around three tracks on this that are good - Once Upon a Time, Photograph and Night Sight are standouts, but the collaborations are pretty dire with Jarvis Cocker's Party getting my vote for weakest effort on this album.
My advice would be to save your money on this one and go out and buy Charlotte Gainsbourg's 5:55 album, which was written and produced by AIR, and is more of a melodical AIR effort than this patchy piece of work.

Since "Premiers Symptomes" means "first symptoms," it's appropriate that it's the name of Air's collection of early singles. This French duo created a warm sweep of electronica that sounded like a complete , which is only marred by two funky, rather awkward songs pasted on to the end.
"Modular Mix" kicks it off -- a dreamy song that sounds like the soundtrack for an underwater movie. "Casanova 70" and the languid "Les Professionals" add a lounge-y sound. And "J'Ai Dormi Sous L'Eau" and "Le Soleil Est Près de Moi" are sweet and slow , almost like a pair of trip-hop lullabies.
The rerelease of "Premiers Symptomes" was given a bonus -- two new tracks, "Californie" and "Brakes On." Well, they're a mixed blessing. They're actually ... Read More:

I've only just got round to buying 10'000HZ Legend, but I'm so glad I did.
This album is a slight departure from Moon Safari. This is more experimental, darker, and somewhat inconsistent in places. Therefore; in my opinion; not every track works. However, the ones that do - work extremely well and there are some great moments here.
"Electronic Performers" opens the album well, it's a Kraftwerk-esque electronic bleeps and beats with electronically processed vocals. But for me; by far the best track on the album; is "How does it make you feel?". This "pink floyd-ish" track drifts in beautifully, with wonderful lyrics giving a sense of bleak loneliness.
As I said before, there are some awesome moments here, but there are some dodgy ... Read More:

Royksopp is a wonderful find, and in particular Melody A.M. The group have, and with great success, produced a collection of tracks with great continuity and, I must add, respect for their listener's ears. It is truly a delight to put on this record. Although the tracks can be soothing, and ideal for chill out, I thought a few allowed you to do anything but chill out. Poor Leno in particular is sexy, and creeps up on you when you're least expecting it.
Brilliant.

I've heard this record for the first time today,(been on another planet!) and the first thing that struck me about it was how the vocal is so similar to my favourite female singer, the little known (in this country}, HEATHER NOVA. I'm not a fan of much electronic music, and I was particularly irritated by the 'vinyl scratching' that appears in several of the songs, however mainly because of the vocal and the songs that don't involve the scratch I know i'm going to really like this album. If you dont know HEATHER NOVA, do me (and yourself)a favour and go have a listen. If you love Beth Gibbons vocal with 'trip hop' music, you will be blown away by HEATHER NOVA with a live band. I suggest 'oyster' as the first album to try, or 'storm' if you prefer a more mellow sound.

I hadn't really heard any of Air's previous work before I watched 'The Virgin Suicides' but after hearing the haunting soundtrack and the eerie melodies that were so fitting to the film I just had to go out and buy this. It is captivating within itself and is an album that truly makes you think. As a soundtrack it works very well as it is filled with haunting tracks that just make you want to listen again and again.
It will take you back to poignant times in your life and really make you think. I find the tracks so haunting and deep that while listening to them you can really reflect on your emotions and feelings. Although it can sound rather sinister in places it is filled with beautiful tracks which upon listening to reveal their darker themes. A very fitting ... Read More:

The sophomore slump hits Zero 7 in their second album, "When It Falls." Sam Hardaker and Henry Binns create a fairly pleasant mesh of downtempo jazz and trip-hop ambience, but their major failure is monotony -- there are few highs or lows in this pleasant if unmemorable album.
The mellow montony of the well-named "Warm Sound" sets off the tone of the album, echoed in the vague "Over Our Heads," spacey title track, and mellowly uninviting "In Time." Unfortunately, these are the most likely to send listeners to sleep -- musically, they possess plenty of beauty and sweetness, and have a distinct polish. But they don't have anything that makes you sit up and take notice.
But the less ambient songs display a little more oomph. There are also forays into ambient ... Read More:

Much of the time bands who have gone into hibernation return with albums which are mere shadows of their previous work. This album is the complete opposite and successfully captures the eerie tones which occupy many of their best songs. I simply cannot pick a favourite from an album which oozes style.
