I guess the first thing that struck me was the overall look of the album; a cover containing simple shapes surrounding Jack and Meg (Meg looks about 13) and a Dutch name. De Stijl. That's alienating an audience straight away really...having a name people will be unable to pronounce. So flipping through the sleeve I find some interesting ideas and quotations about this weird shapely art they've used for the cover...the artists involved are Paul Overy, Gerrit Rietveld, Theo Van Deosburg and Vilmos Huszar...for all you Google kids. Jack likes to leave a little note in his album sleeves and this one ends with:
"Even if the goal of achieving beauty from simplicity is aesthetically less exciting, it may force the mind to acknowledge the ... Read More:

This is a damned fine album. I mean, notwithstanding the fact that it's 'Ecky and not Icky Thump, added to the fact that I am slightly bored with the concept of The White Stripes and wasn't exactly excited to hear that Jack & Meg were releasing a new album in 2007, the content of this album - or at least the majority of it - has won me over. There are plenty of songs on this album that would easily fit alongside the best output of 'White Blood Cells' or 'Elephant' and hearing that they had gone back to the hard-edged, bluesy style they excel at was pleasing.
Straight away, when I heard the lyrics of the title track, especially the lines;
"White Americans, what?/Nothing better to do?/Why don't you kick yourself out?/You're an immigrant ... Read More:

A lot of people describe this as Jack and Meg White's finest accomplishment to date. Where it is impressive, it doesn't have the same fluidity as its predecessor, 'White Blood Cells'. However, it's nearly as good. Opener 'Seven Nation Army' has an intimidating, imposing bassline, and the sheer furious tempo of 'Black Math' are both impressive. 'There's No Home For You Here' is a bit 'Queen' but falls below the standard of the two previous songs. 'I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself' is brilliant. It starts quietly enough, but explodes during the choruses, and towards the end with Jack White's wailing guitar. 'In The Cold, Cold Night' is Meg's turn on vocals, and it shows as a weak point on the album. Track six, 'I Want To Be The Boy To Warm Your Mother's Heart' sees ... Read More:

This is without a doubt the best White Stripes album. Where as elephant recieved much critical acclaim and gave them the success they earned, this album seems to not start where elephant left off. The White Stripes prove with this album that they are not a one trick pony. Instead of making another classic modern guitar album like elephant, they decide to make an album mainly of songs on paino and other random instruments.
This album is very experimental but its not experimental for the sake of it, instead its experimental in order to adapt and modify their sound.This album features many great singles such as my doorbell, and some great songs like the nurse and little ghost. It also has songs such as red rain which prove Jack White is the best guitarist of his generation. ... Read More:

Broken Boy Soldier was good but this is in a different league.It progresses beautifully from the debut. Live , the songs on this are quite wondrous and if you ever see them live the idea that it's just Jack White with a backing band is blown out of the water. One of the best bands around.
And if there weren't enough reasons to adore JW , I doubt very much if I'd have discovered Brendan Benson, The Greenhornes and Blanche had it not been for The Raconteurs .
Release Date May 15, 2006
This album is amazing. It's not the white stripes so don't compare it to them, just listen and make up your own mind. A few years down the line this will be considered a classic album.
Release Date April 02, 2007
Such an amazing album I love every track. KOL are one of the best bands around at the moment. Can't wait to see them live. 10 out of 10
Release Date August 27, 2001
Much hype surrounded the Strokes. For this album it's all warranted. An all time classic that bears repeated listening over and over again. If you make it yours it will be a part of you.

This dvd captures the energy and passion of one of the worlds best bands, challenged only by radiohead. Although his playin can be sloppy at times his raw emotion more then makes up for technique deficiencies.
The camera does not wander aimlessly to his face or the crowd all the time, or show images music lovers do not care about, like in rory gallaghers 'irish tour' dvd.
A music dvd for real music lovers
