It might not be roots, but UB40 has mellow pop reggae down to a T. This hit-packed compilation includes their early ska-based songs King and Food For Thought, plus all their later successes. Most of their biggest hits were covers of older classics, but they always did a good job in the interpretation. Red Red Wine, for example, is absolutely brilliant and the same can be said for Kingston Town, Cherry Oh Baby and I Got You Babe with Chrissie Hynde on guest vocal. I also love the humorous Rat In Mi Kitchen and their excellent interpretation of The Doors’ Light My Fire. Although not completely comprehensive, this compilation offers excellent value for money in that these tracks really were their greatest hits from a 20-year career. There’s ... Read More:

This is a brillent album i first bought it in the summer of 05 and i will never forget the first time i played it cause it was a heatwave and i was in my garden with my mate smoking a spliff and i just felt at one with the world, love it.
Just a beautiful album, stills makes me smile and lifts my spirits the same as it did nearly 30 years ago. An essential purchase for any serious music lover.

this was a big favourite of mine, growing up in the 80's and early 90's. this album is by far the best reggae collection of ub40's. i also bought the ub40 dvd which has a few others which do not feature on the collection. if you want relaxing, soul trippin music this summer, then i suggest this album. totally superb.
this is a must for anyone who not only likes ub40 but enjoyed the 80's and its music.

When songs are repackaged again and again we all know the music so of course it is the PRODUCT which then must be assessed as the first reviewer has . How good a product or collection is this ? Is the compilation worth having ? Only to people who have no Eddy Grant recordings on CD before perhaps . It is indeed another rip off well timed for release . It is not as good as other previous collections available . There are many songs not included here which would have made this edition of hits more worthwhile . I fully endorse and defend the first reviewer here .

I'd call this album a grower, definitely not one for someone new to reggae or just dabbling in reggae. It has a much more synth 80's style of playing than earlier roots albums by Bob. So if you're looking for rough roots rock or pop tinged reggae you may be disappointed. If you're a hardcore reggae or Bob fan you've probably got this already.
What I would say is the beauty in this album is in how it's crafted, these are some of Bob's most prophetic lyrics. Just listen to Zimbabwe it's as relevant a lyric today as it was when it was written.
I bought this album years ago when I was in my early 20's its only now as I carrier towards 30 that it has grown on me so perhaps its one for the more mature listener.

What am I doing buying Legend? you may ask. Well i've absolutely, brutally killed my last copy from years of playing, in fact it's over 10 years old and the time has come to replace it. Need I say more? Bob was a true Legend, the best Reggae artist that ever was and ever will be - you can never turn-off or dislike anything from this CD. The only problem with this album was the glaring missed entry of Trenchtown Rock, but hey! you'll need to dicover all Bob's albums for everything - start with this to get going. Enjoy! One Love/No Woman No Cry/ Buffalo Soldier etc etc etc etc etc.
