The Look Of Love

Although Diana Krall might not be first choice for the best jazz singer in the world she still manages to drip her lyrics like honey over the already sumptuous arrangements in this collection of standards. Her vocals are at once languid and precise, distant and intense and when added to the bittersweet, fully orchestral back-ups, it all comes together in a most intoxicating way. A definite grower; for the impatient listener a first take might be their last but with subsequent plays, the nuances blossom until you realise that you are hearing something rather special.

All For You

Diana Krall has been my favorite way to introduce "non jazz lovers" to the genre. Her mellow voice and piano playing style seem to please most everyone. But this record alone (My favorite by far from her), has been responsible for most of the "conversions" to the jazz cause. Specially through "Boulevard of Broken Dreams". A great, great album by any standards. A "must have" to any music lover. A great tribute to one of the best Piano Player/voices in music history - Nat King Cole.

When I Look In Your Eyes

Can't honestly say I'd call DK a jazz artist on this showing but it is an extremely enjoyable album. If it might be termed easy-listening it certainly is easy to listen to. How it is categorized hardly matters it's an incredibly playable album, very well produced, beautifully played. The vocals are delightfully sung, and Miss Krall really can carry emotion and feeling with a tune, by turns, injecting romance, humour, pathos, and wit.

Easy 5 stars.

The Very Best Of Diana Krall

A 'best of' was always going to be a compromise from such a prolific artist. However, one of the really good things about this album is that it was simultaneously released on vinyl and it sounds simply magnificent. All of you that bought the CD - confine it to the car and buy a proper audio medium. Vinyl was made for Ms Krall's sublime voice. What's also great is that many of these tracks were not previously released on vinyl and to hear 'Peel me a grape' 'East of the Sun' 'Look of love' and others in their full glory is a real treat. A great album from a rare and truly talented artist, buy without hesitation. From This Moment on

Obviously it depends upon what you like, and this CD is OK but not a patch on her earlier recordings. If like me you highly rated her Love Songs and Live in Paris jazz albums, this one and her more recent recordings will be a disappointment.

Love Scenes

This is the kind of album I'd like Diana Krall to make all the time. Utilising the combo of piano, guitar and bass, Krall has never sounded more natural and sensuous than on this choice selection of great songs. While her orchestral efforts with Johnny Mandel have their merits, I do think she is most effective when presented in this less "produced" setting, where her beguiling voice is brought to the fore and her excellent piano stylings have some room to breathe. I sometimes find Krall's renditions a little sonambulent, but here even the most languid ballad has movement and pulse ("Garden in the Rain", an overlooked but beautiful song by Carroll Gibbons, is a superb example). The Girl In The Other Room

I'm a huge fan of DK and I love her treatments of the great jazz ballads but I was ready for something new. I didn't know what to make of this album initially but by the third listening I knew it was going to be one I couldn't live without.
I love singers in their own words; they seem to have a special power and whilst the covers on here are great it's the new songs that stay with you - and stay with you - especially Departure Bay. One of my top ten all time albums.

HAVING LISTENED TO ALL OF DIANA KRALLS CD'S, I SUPPOSE THAT MAKES ME A BIT OF A FAN AND THEREFORE BIASED TO HER WORK. HOWEVER, THIS ALBUM IS GREAT. HER RENDITION OF 42ND STREET IS SO DIFFERENT YOU CAN HARDLY RECOGNISE THE TUNE,TAKING YOU AWAY FROM THE OLD TAP-DANCE FAVOURITE. AS A DANCE TEACHER THIS CD IS GREAT TO TAP TO! THIS CD IS JAMMED PACKED FULL OF OLD FAVOURITES PERFORMED IN A NEW JAZZ STYLE.
