This one took quite a few listenings before I began to realise the strength of some of the lyrics and the emotional power of just about every track.
Some don't like the strong presence of female vocals - personally I love this especially on 'Alexandra Leaving' and 'Here it is'.
I love this album and think others who know Cohen's work will too - and hopefully, many others who don't know his work will hereby get to know it.

At least Oliver Stone has a good taste in music, when he took 3 songs from this album to make his pseudo satire NATURAL BORN KILLERS.
THE FUTURE is yet another great album by Leonard Cohen with several great tracks which are very meaningful, especially THE FUTURE, ANTHEM, DEMOCRACY and WAITING FOR THE MIRACLE. Anyone who enjoys sophisticated lyrics cannot go wrong here.
Release Date July 02, 1990
but that applies to all of Leonard Cohen's albums. "I'm your Man" features his perhaps most famous - or certainly one of his most famous - tracks of all time, FIRST WE TAKE MANHATTAN which is my favorite from this album and has been covered many times, but never has been performed as good as here. This certainly marks a change in Leonard Cohen's music, now not as minimalistic as before, but still as great as ever.
Release Date April 01, 1996
Yet another album that I can play over and over again without it getting boring. I know all of the songs by heart and yet I can listen to it any time. There is only one artist (and I can only emphasize the word ARTIST) who can do this, LEONARD COHEN. Without a doubt, his version of the traditional song LEAVING GREEN SLEEVES is the absolute highlight on this disc.
Release Date April 23, 2007
SONGS OF LOVE AND HATE is a very important album by Leonard Cohen, featuring genius songs as FAMOUS BLUE RAINCOAT, LAST YEAR'S MAN, AVALANCHE, JOAN OF ARC and DRESS REHEARSAL RAG, an essential CD for anyone seriously into GREAT music.
Release Date April 23, 2007
SONGS FROM A ROOM features many great songs such as Bird on the Wire, A Bunch of Lonesome Heroes, The Partisan and many others. In fact there is not one song on this great CD which I don't enjoy hearing over and over again. LEONARD COHEN is without a doubt the greatest artist of all times.
Release Date April 17, 1995
...but still great enough. Phil Spector gives you the ultimate musical overkill with his famous WALL OF SOUND, which personally I could have done without. Still Cohen's songs are great as ever, especially the last track, which is also the title of the album. Cohen himself, I read, wasn't very happy with this release, but still a great album and far better than anything released nowadays.
Release Date April 23, 2007
I first heard a few songs of Leonard Cohen when I was 16. He was one of my dad's favorite singers and soon became my all-time favorite. His songs - often focusing on religious themes, but also on sexuality (in a non-primitive way unlike many songs nowadays), women and isolation - have a special impact. The usual minimalistic orchestration is legend (only a few albums such as DEATH OF A LADIES' MAN produced by Phil Spector and TEN NEW SONGS break the tradition). My absolute favorite song ONE OF US CANNOT BE WRONG is featured on this unique album. With all the R&B/rap crap played on the radio LEONARD COHEN is a welcome salvation!
Release Date January 25, 1999
I've been a Cohen fan as far back as I can remember. I had a feeling I wouldn't be disappointed by this album, since Cohen's live backup singers are legendary, and I was right. These are without a doubt the most beautiful and emotional versions of the songs ever recorded, and I find it impossible to listen to the album as mere background music; as soon as the music starts playing, I can't help but close my eyes and just let the music envelop me completely.
The songs "Bird on a Wire" and "Sisters of Mercy" are worthy of special mention. The tempo is lower, the saxophone sexier and the vocals deeper and more intense than ever before, and the result defies description. I would have gladly paid in blood to be at the show where they were recorded.
I heartily recommend this album to all, it is beyond fantastic.
