Odyssey

The version of Odyssey I'm revieweing is the original one with the photo of Hayley on the seashore, but it's basically the same album as this one. There are a couple of track changes, but all the ones I've referred to are present on this version. The record company has an annoying habit of releasing different versions of the same album to make a new album sale for the sake of a couple of extra songs.

This is Hayley Westenra's most accomplished album so far. Her previous international album, Pure, showed a singer with real talent but recorded too early in her career, with expressiveness and diction insufficiently developed. Hayley Westenra, what a fantastic voice. But she sould be singing classical tracks, instead of corny old numbers like Danny Boy.
Not a good cd at all, very sad.

Second Nature

I have grown to love Katherine Jenkins during the past few months for I think she is one of the best singers around at the moment.

I bought this CD for one reason, and one reason only, the track Vide Cor Meum. This duet was used in the film Hannibal, and also during the death scene of the Leper King Baldwin IV in the film Kingdom of Heaven. Here, Katherine sings the duet along with the Welsh singer Rhys Meiron. It is a divine work, beautifully played and sung.

But, to my absolute joy, I also discovered that this CD has numerous other wonderful tracks which are a joy to listen to. I loved it throughout, especially the tracks:

Grotesque, air brushed caricatures nearly put me off buying this. Not in the same league as the inspiringly beautifully natural first cover. WHERE'S THE SIMPLICITY GONE.

Slightly disappointed, just very slightly. I should have listened to my instincts and I wouldn't have missed much. I get more enjoyment from the debut album. This album is all right. But just all right. It's not got what the first album had - good choice of crossover songs. This time around they have picked songs that cannot be improved or sound similar to what's gone before. Shame because I love the first album - its one that I put on when I'm busy and before I know it I end up sitting down putting my feet up and just chillin right through to the end of the album. Every time! Its bliss.

I bought "Odyssey" and "Pure", the former being my favourite CD, because of reading Amazon's reviewers' comments. They were right. I then saw Hayley's DVD and thought I would definitely buy it after reading the reviews again. I am not disappointed and so glad I did purchase this DVD. What can I say about this brilliant singer that hasn't already been mentioned by the other reviewers? I absolutely agree with everyone - a sensational classical singer who can sing all types of songs. The video on "May It Be" is so good too. I am watching the DVD now and it's great - see other reviewers' comments - they are absolutely right! I know I will play this DVD as well as the two CDs many times. A very good buy!

I will admit that when I first saw the track listing for this CD, I felt disappointed. "Come on!" I thought, "Katherine should be more original than this! Practically every soprano records 'O Mio Babbino Caro' at one point or another, and here are two common songs from the classical crossover genre, 'Nella Fantasia' and 'The Prayer'. Should I even invest in something that will only be a re-hash of things I have already heard many times?" In the end however, I decided that even with the unimaginative song selections, I would buy this CD.

I am very glad I did! There are so many gems here that I now consider this Katherine's best album. Surprisingly, "Nella Fantasia" instantly became a favorite of mine. Her rich, warm tones really brought this song to life in a way I had never heard ... Read More:

Katherine Jenkins / Premiere

The singing is very poor. Her voice is weak. Please try Renee Fleming or Anne Sofie Von Otter. They wipe the floor with Katherine vocally. I brought this CD to see what all the hype was and I can only assume it is because she is very pretty.Shame we cant say that about her voice
