bought this album on the streangth of hearing the single ( last track on album ) and I have to say how disapointed I was with the reat of the album, only buy this cd if your a fan of the group themselves

i cant believe i hear this album now! having recently bought the brilliant Leaders Of The Free World I wanted to discover Elbow. Then I listened to Cast Of Thousands next which i included in my top 10 album list. but then I listened to this album and I was totally knocked off my feet! I just love it. this is music! reading other reviews I was deeply dissapointed they were compared to other bands. some of the reviews which compare elbow to say coldplay would have put off buying this record. If u like music then get all the albums by Elbow. Another band I thought I should recommend is I Am Kloot.

The Age of the Understatement

This album is a great surprise. I didn't know what to expect when i bought it. I have the arctic monkeys albums and I like them, however I find them a little too much after a while, each song sounds similar, where as this album is full of great tracks which are written well and the production is, well wow. It has a big sound to it what with the orchestra and that. Each track has the feel that it can be released as a single and thats the mark of a great album. Most definitely the best album I have listened to for a good 10 years!

In an entertainment business full of faked stance and faux emotion, all of a sudden something REAL has come along. Glasvegas are tough, rough around the edges but ultimately this is the genuinely most affecting releases not just in 2008 but for many years.

Let's be clear about this, 'Glasvegas' aren't romanticised 'loser' jangle from the bedroom of a semi-detached, this is raw anguish, the sound of souls being shreaded by the dismal reality of life on the streets of the East End of Glasgow. The album covers such topics as gang violence, disfunctional families and perhaps most of all the utter desperation of the poverty trap and the yearning for a better life.

Oracular Spectacular

Perfect Symmetry

I have both of Keane's previous albums and they've always been some of my favourite albums to chill out to. Unfortunately, this is practically impossible to do with the new album.

One one hand, the style is quite different to previous Keane albums with the first track (Spiralling) particularly emphasising this thanks to its 80s style. This makes it much more up-beat than previous Keane albums. Whether you like this change or not is up to you.

However, the thing about this album which ruins it the most is the abysmal mastering. The album has been amplified, compressed and clipped to within an inch of its life. As a result, it's physically draining and fatiguing to listen to. Every bass drum kick in Spiralling is so badly clipped and distorted ... Read More:
