There are better Funk compilations out there, and if you're a purist you won't go near this, but if you know a couple of the tracks here and want to extend your musical boundaries a little then this could be for you.

There's the usual suspects on a Funk collection, Curtis, and Parliament, Kool and Cameo, but on the positive side, the tracks are occasionally not the obvious ones - "Flashlight" gets an airing as does "Spirit of the Boogie".

"Jungle Fever" is one I didn't expect to find in this company, it's very Funky and in the original sense of the word, and an Al Green track is always a bonus in my book.

Overall, too many tracks here are from the late 70's and being a bit of a purist myself, lean too close ... Read More:

Original 80's Groove Selection

It follows that for individuals of a certain age and mindset the 1980's will always hold a special place in their affections, even if the memory of that time has been beset by a rosy coloured tinge. But here we have a collection of 30 tracks chosen and put together by Ian Dewhirst, which allows the listener to listen again to many of the seminal records from that period which might be termed '80's Groove'. The term might be contentious but there is no doubting the quality of the selection, which isn't surprising given the fact that Dewhirst was the man responsible for the highly successful original 'Mastercuts' series in the early 1990's (which featured a selection of tracks drawn from various genres of 'black music').
