This album is a continuation of ten years of work that is as deep in depth as it is deep in adjectives to describe it. The man is a legend and when he picks up a guitar, sits down at a piano or picks up a pen the results are mindblowing. This album has been criticised as a poor follow up to white ladder, wrong. This album is awful. Terrible vocals, terrible songs, so-so backing - you begin to get the idea. This is a record that is completely lacking in charisma and imagination. Put it this way if he was still in the army they would have had him put him against the wall and shot!

Lost Songs 1995-1998

A moody album that can make your hairs stand on end. This album is spine-tingly good. If you like White Ladder (like myself) or acoustic tracks in general, then you should not hesitate to buy this album. This is David Gray's best offering but it is raw. Not an album for chart-music/pop fans. Buy it!

well nothing can ever beat the famous Babyon etc. however this album has a certain edge to it. you wouldn't be wasting your money by getting this album.

Don't compare this to anything he's done since because it just work that way. This is David Gary debut, a raw, folky compilation that combines passion and anger as much as it provokes the same in its' listening audience.
White Ladder seems a million miles away from this album, and that's good thing. I like them both, but for different reasons. If given the choice, this would be the only Dave Gray album I'd take with me if my house was on fire.

Like a lot of people I was very hesitant as to whether 9 would live up to its predecessor and had to give it a few listens before I could pass judgement. Although in some aspects it is similar to O- "Dogs" possesses an innocence that would fit nicely with Damien's first album- to me it seems a lot more mature and some of the perfect, beautiful lyrics have been replaced with some more realistic and matter-of-fact ones which are actually just as powerful. For example the chorus of Rootless Tree (which involves a lot of swearing) to me is incredibly realistic and almost like a converstaion- "so * you and all we've been through, I said leave it, it's nothing to you, and if you hate me then hate me so good that you can let me out of this hell when you're around". i bought this album for the brilliant babylon track.

so what do i find? not the single version but a weaker remixed version without the full backing.

I have only had this album for two days and it is already one of my favourites! Although I had heard of Ray Lamontagne, I had not heard any of his music and ordered this album from Amazon on a whim. Just pure beautiful music, very Damian Rice-esque, execpt more upbeat!!

All The Lost Souls

This album is twice as good as his previous effort and I have therefore given it two stars. His voice is still annoying though. Maybe someone should suggest to him (nicely) he does an instrumental album. Yikes..
