I ordered this set after seeing it advertised in an email from Amazon. I was not very familiar with Johnny Cash, with the exception of Boy named Sue and Ring of Fire. This double CD really has blown me away. Cash's voice is great but the entertainment comes as much from his banter with the prisoners as from the songs, many of which have jail themes. All in all a great showcase for a natural performer. The sound quality is also excellent demonstrating better stereo effects than many modern albums.

Johnny Cash's rich Fire N' Brimstone tones haven't diminished one bit despite his advancing years, but listen carefully and we now find it tinged with something soft and imperceptibly fragile. This is a movie to be enjoyed by all Cash fans. The two main actors give very good performances including the songs. I thought the portrayal of June Carter to be particularly attractive. Of course much is condensed from the real biography and at times I was glad I had some knowledge of it to understand the film. Similarly, while the songs were fine, the spoken dialogue was often unclear to me so i was glad I knew the basic story. It is a good portrayal of a troubled, turbulent great talent. Now I want to go and play the songs again.

Legend Of Johnny Cash Vol. 2

Ring of Fire Volume 1 was the perfect introduction to Johnny Cash for young listeners, featuring twenty one of his classics like Folsom Prison Blues and Hey Porter!, add that to a successful biopic Walk The Line, Johnny Cash only continues to grow in his status.

Its been nearly four years since his tragic death, and ultimately Volume 2 is a way of dividing between the true fanatic and the curious listener.

Not quite as accessible as the first set, Volume 2 features a few cuts from Sun records including the fantastic There You Go, his stint at Columbia with the haunting Don't Take Your Guns To Town and of course his last efforts with Rick Rubin including a cover of Tom Petty's brilliant I Won't Back Down.

American Recordings

This is the first of the so-called American recordings, and arguably the best. The songs have been carefully selected by Cash, and I believe there is certainly something here for everyone. If you love music you will soon fall in love with this album. Most artists today don't have one percent of the emotional intensity that Cash had. I highly recommend this album without reservation.

American V: A Hundred Highways

This is a masterpiece, this is how records should be done, crisp sounds, a great and passionate voice, an intensity that is difficult to see in other records. I think this is his best performance ever, too bad he was not there to listen to it. His version of "Further up on the road" is just unbelievable, I think Springsteen might have cried when he listened to it. Similarly "four strong winds" is really good and better, for example, than Neil Young's version on Comes a Time.
A record that will make you cry, with passion and soul. I don't give 5 stars easily but this is just too good.

Solitary Man: American III

Not being an expert on country music or on Johnny Cash, I must say this album is moving and very very suggestive; with simple but clever arrangements, beautiful songs and amazing vocal...

Obviously more than merely touched by age and various ailments, mr. Johnny Cash performes with great passion and suggests wisdom no young singer can convey (or even come close to conveying)...

I like it very much!

Walk the Line

Whilst watching the film, I always thought that Johny Cash sang the OST, In fact it was Joaquin Phoenix. Ring of Fire and Walk the Line are classics , and are enhanced by Phoenix's rendition. Likewise, Reese Witherspoon's rendition of June Carter is equally impressive.

The Very Best Of Dolly Parton

Has much has i Like Dolly Parton, I do wonder how many more times are her managers going to release her Greatest Hits & Best Of Albums.
I think she should come back and do something New!!

I brought Dolly Partons Greatest Hits back in 1999 The Album i have is a 2x Disc version With the same songs and same listings in the exact same track listing order has these 2 seperate Albums!! Why it has been Re-released has two seperate Volumes is beyond me, Especially when the version i have is still avalible to buy.

I have given this a 4 Star if it was a New greatest hits it would have got a 5 Star, However it isn't. And plus it's not Dolly's thought i blame the record company!!! :-)

Carryin' on With Johnny Cash and June Carter

There is some very nice stuff on here but there is also a track I believe after some considerable research to be the worst performance Mr C ever put down on tape. Its actually worth getting just for the car crash awfulness.
Jackson and Guitar Pickin Man being the best of the bunch. June's raggedy edged deep country voice is a pure joy compared to the plastic divas nashville serves up these days. Love to hear that growl mingling with the sweetness. Johnny is if anything a bit hesitant in his vocalising, compared to other work. If only he had been hesitant however in the cover of Ray Charles' What I Say.
