It has taken me a while to come around to Sarah's music. Perhaps this is because I was not mature enough to appreciate it when she first started out (I was a teenager when this album was originally released). My tastes have changed over the years and I am glad that I didn't buy this until I was 'ready' for it. FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTASY is a beautiful album, but as another has pointed out, there are moments that the pain drips from her words.
People on Amazon have starred this as her masterpiece - because this is the first and only album that I have by Sarah, I cannot comment on the validity of this, but what I can say is that the amount of talent she has is undeniable. Her lyrics are intelligent and can almost read like poetry. She also ... Read More:

First forget 'concept albumns' - rather treat it as a collection of songs which did not fit elsewhere. Then sit back and relax... Whilst the production quality is sometimes a little 'rough' - it adds to the whole feel of the albumn... an evening with Sarah (and freinds). The only downside is the remixed Delerium track (which I like) which does not fit the rest of the CD atmosphere.
Overall a good CD to get, and not just for 'collectors'.

I bought my first Sarah McLachlan CD, Surfacing, purely on an Amazonrecommendation, probably because I had bought several CDs by what I thinkof as talented singer-songwriters (Tom McRae, Damien Rice, Beth NielsenChapman, Jennifer Warnes, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Leonard Cohen, and Dylan, obviously). I also read every customer review of McLachlan's work beforeinvesting, reluctantly, in an unheard album. I have now bought 4 McLachlanalbums and a concert ticket for later this year. I haven't beendisappointed by any of her work, although I do think that some tracks needrepeated listening. Comparisons with Dido do her no justice - I can seesome similarities in terms of vocal style, but really, this is farclassier and more complex stuff. Buy Solace. Then buy Surfacing. Then ... I am biased of course because I love James Taylor's voice...! but this is sublime for a christmas feel anytime of the year...even if,like me, you are not vaguely religious, all the songs just feel 'right'!

Touch was Sarah's debut album, and her talent is clear for all to see. If anything this album has more hooks and riffs on it than any others Sarah has done. Sadly, it does sound a little dated having been made in 1988 which may put some people off. Each song has at least one big standout point, be it Sarah's soaring vocals in "Sad Clown", or the sparse and emtional ending on "Ben's Song", or the nearly classical "Touch". Each song is a joy to listen to and they grow on you the more you listen. Highly recommended if you dont mind the slightly dated sound.

I have been a big fan of Sarah McLachlan's for years after discovering her music in the 90's when I lived in America, and I have all her albums. Mirrorball is a wonderful live album, and most live albums are often mediocre in comparison to studio recordings so for one to sound this good is a rarity. This album contains some of her most well-known songs so would be a great introduction to her music for anyone who doesn't know of her. She is one of the best female musicians in recent years and her voice is just remarkable. She stands head and shoulders above a lot of other young female vocalists who I think often tend to sound very similar to each other, even if they do have good voices. Her songs are often incredibly poignant and moving, such as Angel and I Will Remember ... Read More:
