This album is brilliant, and although it sounds typical of its genre, it sounds unique and it does not sound boring or generic.
Instead, you can expect track after track of infectiously catchy, punchy, indie pop-rock with great instrumentals and vocals as well as well thought out lyrics.
You've undoubtly heard I Found Out. If you liked that song, you will like the rest of the album. There are no throwaway tracks on this album and each is as good as the rest.

I really like this album as it has an amazing energy and anger that reminds me of the Clash. This was a bit of grower for me and I really appreciate what it's all about; the drudgery of every day life, with abit of economic harshness and nights out thrown in. They are singing about Britain Now. My favourite track of all is 'Away from Here' because there is no other song at the moment that captures how god damn tedious every day life is:'I am sick and tired / of working to be retired'. Alot of the songs also have an anthemic quality about them ('You're not alone', Had Enough). It only get fours stars though as I am perfectionist. There are just a couple of songs I don't care for ('This Song is About You' is a bit wet) but if you like old school ... Read More:

I gambled on this CD, only having listened to Moving to New York on XFM...
Glad I did to be honest as it's a very honest and uplifting CD, one of the best I've heard since Snow Patrol's "Final Straw" and Hard-Fi's "Stars of CCTV". If you need a guide as to their sound, think the Arctics stirred with Blur and add a dash of Julian cope (Teardrop Explodes - ask your dad!)
The afore-mentioned Moving to New York is a superb single, with great guitars one of the album's rocking tracks. Let's Dance to Joy Division brings back memories and always raises a smile. There are some weaker tracks but overall there are a varied ensemble of original and lively songs on offer here.
Only a three-piece, the Wombats deliver a ... Read More:

Heard this album and it made me feel like being sick. Saw the band on TV and the lead 'singer' made me feel like turning to violent crime. Please stop buying this rubbish so I never have to hear their awful songs again. I would rather eat my own faeces than have to listen to this crap.

I was a fan of scouting for girls until I got this album then I realised how annoying and similar every song is. Not good.
Release Date October 22, 2007
I really like the whimsical, slightly retro, ELO-inspired sound these lads create. I loved Goodbye Mr A and I liked Worried About Ray as singles so I was intrigued as to what the rest of the album would sound like.
The album as a whole is good, but not great. There are no other tracks which stand out to me, and it sounds rather generic, like a cross between ELO and The Feeling, which should be good, but this album does not really excite or inspire me, despite it being listenable.

I've never given the Foo Fighters the time or day, just never really got into them post Nirvana. Bought this album upon recommendation by a Foo fan. Upon first listen (whilst clearing out the garage) I knew there was something very important happening to me. Quite simply at that moment I became an instant Grohl/Foo fan. Having now backtracked on most of the Foo's catalogue from my own perspective, this is not only my favourite of theirs but quite possibly the most important 'rock' album in my CD collection and remains a permanent fixture in the car ! Love it Love it Love it. It's so good, I find it difficult to believe these aren't reworkings of old classics, but of course respect Dave Grohl's song writing abilities as well as his virtuoso performance abilities.

I have the first album and as a lot of people have said the Joy Division sounds are there at the first listen but frankly once you listen to the Editors a bit more it becomes difficult to see any likeness.
This second album is a bit more melodic than the first but im amazed how it has grown on me. Frankly once I really got into it the darkness you hear at first lifts. This album is emotional - not dark or depressing - and I love it for that. Nothing like Joy Division who I am a fan of but can only take in small doses.
If you are open minded (and yes the lyrics are pretty simple) then this album is worth a shot. Give it time.

I got this for nothing, fortunately. I can't understand all the comparisons with Scott Walker. Yes, there is an orchestra involved and the arrangements are very full and reminiscent of the sixties but the voice!!! Aargh! It's horrible. And the lyrics are pathetic. Overrated, overstated, overblown. It gets two stars for the very good musicianship and interesting arrangements. But that voice...

If, when you hear the warbling sound of Brandon Flowers erractic maybe flaky voice your ears prick up with glee, The Killers secretly brilliant lyrics pummelling through you, then I see you have no choice but to purchase this album immediately. You will not be put off by the simularity of the many tracks. (I frequently start singing one and accidently somehow blend it into another part way through.)
Nevertheless for the rest of us it is a good (rather long) collection of many moderate tracks, but intertwinded with some sparkling gems, true rarities. Nothing less than is expected.
A good heart gushing chat on the phone with a friend you haven't seen in a while to tide you over whilst you eagerly await their homecoming.
