How adorable is Duffy? I first saw her performing on Jools Holland's TV show and was completely won over by her performance. She has an amazing voice and judging from the amazing Rockferry and current single Mercy, her album is going to be awesome. Loving the arkwork on this single too.
Rockferry is a big slice of retro soul ballad, it sounds like it could be right out of the 60s while at the same time coming across effortless modern. Epic in its grandeur, a beautifully moving song.
Oh Boy is very different from the a-side, it's yet another platform for Duffy to show off her incredible vocals. A sweet little number with just her and an acoustic guitar, this reminds me of the Sugababes ... Read More:

I've listened to this drivel - the record and all the hyped-up reviews of Duffy - and finally I've had enough. It's rubbish. 'You got me beggin', you got me beggin', you got me beggin' ad nauseum. Even dance songs can have good lyrics, it has happened. And enough already of these affected warbling or bellowing, sinus-afflicted girls (Adele's another...) I'm not hearing anything great here. And as for the Dusty comparisons, just just insulting to Dusty's versatility and emotional/vocal dynamic range. For god's sake, Duffy is plain Duff.

Duffy truly is 2008's shining star. Of all the new acts that appear each year there is always one that completely captures that hearts of the nation and whose songs dominate the radio with their brilliance. 2008 is without a doubt Duffy's year. With her debut album still riding high in the top 10 of the UK album chart months after its initial release we now get treated to Warwick Avenue, the brilliant second major single from the rcord (third if you count the title track getting its minor release last year).
I think i actually like Warwick Avenue even more than Mercy. Whereas Mercy was a unshamedly get-up-and-dance pop record with an incredibly instant hook, Warwick Avenue retains that same pop sensibility and moulds it around a lush retro-tinged soul track, ... Read More:

No second album syndrome for the glorious Amy Winehouse. On 'Back to Black' she has honed and developed her gorgeous jazz edged sound into something truly special!
This album explores a range of styles: from 60's inspired motown, including the James-Bond-theme-tune sounding title track (on which she sounds not unlike Shirley Bassey!), through delicious hip-hop tinged jazz on 'You know I'm no good' to gorgeous ballads including the superb 'Love is a losing game'.
Amy Winehouse's lyrics stand out on this album. She has a talent for writing about quite painful issues (loss of love, as on 'Tears dry on their own' or infidelity on 'You know I'm no good') with matter-of-fact honesty and incredible humour. Her songs make you laugh and wince in equal measure! ... Read More:

Stepping Stone is another absolute gem of a track - the 4th single taken from Duffy's number 1 album - Rockferry. Seeing her take a more subtle, melancholy side - while not quite as instant as her previous singles, with a few listens it becomes utterly enchanting. Once again showcasing Duffy's amazing vocals against a lush backdrop of dreamy strings and piano it's the perfect song for the start of the Autumn.
For the b-side we get the delightful little track Big Flame. Just 2 minutes long, this gentle acoustic number is an absolute winner of a track and is well worth getting your hands on.

It strikes me how nobody is talking about how awful this record sounds. It is loud, compressed... It seems to have been mixed directly into an mp3 player; the saddest thing of all is that it has some of the better songs Weller has ever written... Someone has to do something with the awful sounding records released today, because nobody seems to notice.
