I absolutely love this show. I think another reviewer said thirtysomethings will enjoy this more and I have to agree. While Life on Mars was brilliant, a lot of the time it did seem to be nothing more than a pastiche of the brilliant Sweeney and Gene Genie nothing more than a piss-take of the legendary Jack Regan. That is not to slag it off LoM was groundbreaking and I adore John Simm and he made Sam Tyler such an empathetic character it was easy to sympathise with Sam's plight.
However (deep breath)...Life on Mars is a different kettle of fish altogether. The first thing that struck me was how cleverly it is filmed. The opening scenes of 2008 Alex tacking the demented Arthur Layton who is responsible for putting her into the `coma' ... Read More:

A great little book is this and a must have for fans of the TV show. It's full of useful info that I'm sure would come in handy on an action packed Saturday night in town, and plenty of educational pictures as well. Not too demanding on the old brain cells to read and it's not overlong. An extremely funny book and after you have read it, its the sort that you can keep picking up and look at your favourite bits again. Don't lend it to anyone though, unless they give you a receipt or a returnable deposit, or you won't see it again. Very good overall, a good laff, highly recommended. Also have a look at Al Murray's 'Pub landlord' and 'The Post Box at the Crossroads' by Alan Bates.

Um, my wife bought me this, the Edge Of The 70's and the Mix Tape one for our wedding anniversary this week, mainly due to being of a certain age, I guess, oh and having a massive obscure 80's music collection - I've been collecting since 1978 when I was 12.
I must say a lot of the tracks on this CD are hardly "on the edge" - Tears For Fears? Visage? Landscape? The Cure? Ultravox's "Vienna"? However, there are some surprising cuts on here. It's nice to see that B-Movie finally get on one of these complilations, hopefully Steve Hovington and the boys can finally make a bit of money. They were one of the truly great "undiscovered" bands of the new romantic era. That's the thing with the 80's for every Thompson Twins, Duran Duran and Tears ... Read More:

This is a good CD with some catchy songs on it, but they can get a bit boring after a while.
But it still has some catchy songs on it, so i'm giving it 5 stars.

Really enjoyed this fast-paced exhilerating album. It's actually the exactb album they promised after automatic but they gave us monster instead. Monster would be an interesting avant-guard sort of thing to be doing these days. Instead we get something so good we just don't deserve it. Unbelievably good and so reminiscent of lots of pre-green albums.

I am amazed that the reviewers who gave this such a slating bought it considering the contents are clearly displayed and that these contents do not fulfill their particular agenda, if indeed they did. A review should be given following the purchase of an item and with a sense of fairness, or appreciation for the intention of the people behind its release. To accuse the makers of blatantly selling out is as valid as saying Wild Man Fisher did it for the money.
I bought this knowing that the tracks contained therin bascally sum up listening to John Peel and Dave Fanning(RTE Radio) over the years and as such let me get some stuff on cd that I would not be willing to buy the full albums for, or to replace aged cassette recordings made at the time.

I've left reviewing this for nine months and literally hundreds of listens. I don't believe that there's ever been another album I've played so often. And there's no sign of my growing tired of it. On the basis of a huge number of plays, I feel qualified to say that this is a truly wonderful album without a single weak track.
After seeing Goldfrapp on two consecutive nights (at Brixton) in November 2008, I couldn't bear to listen to anything other than Goldfrapp. Naturally, I gave their previous three albums fresh listens, as well as Seventh Tree. I was struck by the degree of continuity between the four albums. Some people will tell you that Seventh Tree is quite different from what went before. I no longer think that's true, the four albums mark a natural progression, ... Read More:
